Like the title said. Moving to the area for work reasons. Part that is troubling is determining what's a good area of town to move into. Have my one year old and wife to worry about and with me working nightshift I can't just willy nilly pick a place.

Going to be working in Plaquemine, so something relatively close to there is preferred but don't mind driving as long as it's within an hour. Have family in Greenwell Springs so really anything as far out as Zachary isn't bad.

Trying to get suggestions from the people who live there. Never been there more than a weekend to determine the good family areas of the city.

There are no good areas of the city. Move to Prarieville or Zachary.

Lol I'm coming from Houston. The traffic is pretty similar in the fact that it's a crapshoot every day.

Thanks for the advice fellas, knew I would get some honest opinions

If I worked on the west side, there is no way in hell I would move to Baton Rouge. I would find a place on that side of the river.

Granted, they aren't great either, but at least you don't have to fight BR traffic and the bridge every day.

When we move she will be running the house and going thru college courses. I work on the west side of the river at the Shintech mega project but don't want to move to Plaquemine or Port A, too many bad things I've heard from coworkers

Only downside is everything in Addis and Brusly is just outrageously overpriced. I would love to live right there in Brusly but I can't find anything worth the asking price.

Right now staying with family in Greenwell/Central and taking the Old Bridge on my way in.

I'm assuming she is attending college online.

Move to Brusly. It's has as much charisma as a pet rock but it's safe and efficient and you completely avoid the bridge which is so important for your sanity. if as the kid gets older and the wife gets a job there is a greater need to be on the east side of the river then reassess.

If you're working in Plaquimine, I would suggest living on that side if the river.

Brusly, seems to be a decent town if you want to live on the West Bank.
They seem to have decent schools and is close to your work.

Avoid living in EBRP.
You will be taxed to death on services which will go to NBR.
The public school system is a joke, politicians do not even hide the corruption, parish services are horrible, and crime getting out of control.
Their only answer to fixing public services is more taxes while parishes services get worse.

Ascension Parish in the Prairieville or Dutchtown area is another good option.
You may have to wait in line at the ferry to cross it versus the Miss River Bridge.
They have good public schools, less crime than in BR, and less taxes.

Zachary or Central/Greenwell Springs are nice safe communities with good schools. You aren't too far from the old bridge either

Is that below Plaquemine or Brusly?

Either way-Prairieville, Highland Road, Bluebonnet etc...and catch the Plaquemine ferry both ways. Much better than the bridge and eliminate the interstate all together. Plus eliminate most of Hwy 1 traffic. I use the ferry all the time. Easy on and off and it runs fast.
