I shite you not, I had a delay once because they were having trouble restocking the plane with drinks and snacks....

FAA requirement to have the flight catererd with water and ice at minimum.

We had to abort a takeoff bc a passenger had an anxiety attack. Went back to the gate to let them off. Missed our slot into ATL. Turned into a 75 min delay.

I also recently boarded a plane and made it to the point where they had everything almost ready for departure when they discovered the plane was overdue for maintenance. So every person on the plane had to get off the plane, go one gate over, and get on another plane. Delayed us enough that I had to sprint to catch a connecting flight and made it as they were ready to close the airplane doors.

I'm all for keeping planes in good maintenance, but next time check the maintenance log before we board the plane.

Came in early early in the morning to NOLA one time because of delay. We had circle because no one was at the airport to turn on the lights.

How long ago was this?

Most airports have a radio frequency that will turn the lights on when the tower isn't manned.

I'm pretty sure there is someone at MSY 24/7. NEW must have someone there, remote lighting, or lights on step 3 all night.
Most of the time the passengers don't know the real reason for their delay. Sometimes the pilots don't know or have been lied to. It's still a very safe operation though.

ETA: wildlife on the runway is a very legit threat especially at smaller airports

A couple weeks ago flying from MSY to Houston on United, we were told that there was a ground stop in Houston and we would have a 35 minute delay due to weather. I checked the radar in Houston from my phone and didn't see any weather. So I twitted FAA and IAH and asked if there was a ground stop. "No all clear" was the response. I showed this to the mean arse old women working the desk at the gate and asked what the real problem was. She told me the pilot was late and asked me not to tell anyone.

Flying Delta one time, the pilot's seat in the cockpit broke and they had to fly a replacement seat in from Atlanta.

Same. Can't remember if it was MCO or MSY but they had one in "stock" and i remember the mechanic walking through the door with the brand new seat wrapped in plastic, bolted it down and off we went.

yrs ago when I lived in ATL (shortly post 9/11) some UGA fan ran down the up escalator out of the secure area because he left his camera on the plane. They shut down the entire airport for several hours. It was the friday before a game in Athens and I think they may have mentioned something about it on the TV broadcast of the game.

You have completely fricked up that story.

The guy was rushing TO his flight, not from, and the game was in oxford Mississippi, which is why he was rushing to catch it.

Had an older lady that had pre-boarded one of those tiny planes between BTR and Houston. Somehow she managed to hit her face, nose, face AND nose on something sharp enough in there and bloodied everything up. We were delayed (still waiting in line to board) about 45min-hour while they remedied this situation on board. Somehow word got out to us, what had happened...but, I'm not exactly sure how. That was definitely unique.

We BARELY made our connection to Vegas in Houston after all of this went down.

Had another flight held at the gate because of a mechanical issue. Maintenance shows up with a roll of duct tape and board the plane. 30 minutes later they come off the plane and we are allowed to board. It was a little troublesome that the problem took 30 minutes to fix and all that was used was some duct tape.

Flying US Air from Charlotte to Kansas City and about 20 minutes prior to the scheduled boarding time we hear "ladies and gentlemen, we are currently trying to locate the flight crew"

20 minutes later: "ladies and gentlemen, we have located the flight crew, they are in Orlando."

Water in the bathroom was not working. Which under some scenarios would matter, except this was about a 35-40 minute flight. Delay lasted 3 hrs, all while onboard the plane, to eventually just have the pilot say we can just use bottles of water

I was in the United Airlines terminal and during both occasions someone came on the intercom saying that a flight was delayed because the captain and / or crew just didn't show up. Wasn't missing, nothing wrong with the plane. It sounded like they decided to just not show up for work those days.

Happened to me flying back to Kentucky after Mardi Gras. The crew didn't show up so we had to wait over an hour to get a backup crew. That caused me to miss my connection by 5 minutes. I stood in line, to get on another flight, for 2 hours. Then when I finally went to board, after 8 hours of sitting in Houston, they told me that I wasn't on that flight.

Single worst airport experience I've ever had and all because the crew didn't show up.
