re: The NHL Playoffs: The Quest for Lord Stanley's Cup. - oilfieldtiger
Yeah, I've heard that, too, and I don't get it
I tend to agree w/ you. It's a report from a widely read blog coming from "unnamed sources". what gave it credence is the blog never goes out on a limb like this, but when they do they're usually correct; that very day a columnist publis...
I gotta say, I gained a lot of respect for the Pens fighting like that and making it close after looking like garbage the last month of the season.
Mike Johnston may have saved his job, getting them to play w/ some fire down when it counted and adjusting the game plan to stay competiti...

Really terrific game. Pens made a game effort in the series. 4 games finish 2-1. A lot of folks obviously had it Rangers in 5, but I don't think anyone really thought the Penguins would make it that tight....

re: US Highway 90 - Is there a worse section of road in America? - oilfieldtiger
I thought Louisiana had the worst roads until I moved to Pennsylvania. It's a combination of roads being old and built to standards of a bygone era, winter damage, heavy traffic, and lack of maintenance, which i understand is kind of made worse due to the "turnpike authority" and toll funding mod...

OT in Pens-Rangers. Pens looked sharp through most of the 3rd, Rangers had some great chances late -- especially Boyle. Really good hockey game....

Furious second period in MSG, w/ a merciful hockey god allowing a puck to get past lundqvist in a scrum. 1-1 and the Penguins w/ some momentum....

Damn the puck luck. Get a redirect through Lundqvist's legs only to have it carom off a sake and just clear of the goal mouth. Gotta just keep putting it on net....
Rangers on the board with a PPG!!
that's a tough call. stick on stick, and didn't look like any contact w/ St Louis' skate but he did go down. Stinks....

re: The NHL Playoffs: The Quest for Lord Stanley's Cup. - oilfieldtiger
i'm watching the penguins local feed here in pittsburgh, and there was a sequence there were like 4 guys handled the puck in a row and the play by play man said "...and he's looking for his first goal of the series...." just as part of the chatter. it really summed up the penguins scoring woes....

Post from Deadspin. Apparently the officiating crew left their strategy notes up in the Pittsburgh hotel they were staying at prior to Game 4. [link=(http://deadspin.com/notes-from-the-officials-strategy-meeting-on-reffing-ra-1700030594#)]LINK[/link]...

re: Cubs Thread 4/23: Bryant in CF Edition - oilfieldtiger
After the start of the series, I'd say a split feels mighty fine as a Pirate fan considering we had to look to Vance Worley and Jeff Locke on the back end of the series...both of whom have been unexpected more effective through the early going. Our own bullpen meltdown the other night really put ...
Man, this Rangers-Pens game has been about as even as even gets
Two icings in a row end up biting 'em. Lose the draw, nice play by St Louis, and things happen in front of the net. Lost in all of this is how well Fleury has played. At least the Pirates won....
You could see it coming a mile away, guys were gutted, they have nothing left, too many injuries and lost Pouliot in the 2nd to play with 5 defensemen once again.
tonight was like a metaphor for the season: hot start, injury at a tough time, it slips away. They've lost 6 of 8 and h...
So one innocent man out of hundreds of thousands
there's been over 150 people freed from death row since the death penalty was reinstated. I am not totally in favor of abolishing the death penalty altogether, but it's clear there have been many miscarriages of justices over the past ...

what a sequence there before the TV break. Great chances, just couldn't get it in the net. Keep putting those shots on goal, one's eventually gotta get through. Nevermind -- 3-1. Christ....
Penguins outshoot the Flyers 22-4 in the first period but 1-1. Mason single handedly keeping Philly in it
and they manage to get the lucky bounce on that second goal. damn it. If the penguins had no luck right now, it would be a massive improvement....
I really could see either Detroit or Pittsburgh missing out on the playoffs.
The penguins are just depleted at this point. They haven't had the number of mangames missed as Columbus to be sure, but they're losing guys at seemingly the worst possible time. Hard to finish well when you...
Dupuis is going to try and return to hockey to next year
It's been posted before, but that Dupuis' essay in the Players Tribune is really worth the read. It's really quite an introspective look, and seemingly quite honest about how he realizes he doesn't have much time left, how the...
