Looks like all of the plans call for four lanes with a median. Why can't they just make it four lanes with a turn lane in the middle like the rest of Perkin's Road? I don't think a median will work well in that area.

Because having 5 lanes worked too damn well on the rest of the road

medians don't really work well anywhere, but they look nice.

Because it's Baton Rouge. Why do it right the first time?

The design does not include turn lanes, and instead has turnarounds sprinkled along the medians where drivers can make U-turns. Brad Ponder, who works for the city-parish Green Light Plan, said U-turns are safer than turn lanes, where drivers are prone to crash.

I'm on Perkins Road everyday and the turn lanes work great. I never see any wrecks.

The strip between the post office and the mall on bluebonnet is already shitty.
Perkins to I-10 on Essen is a constant shite show.
Nicholson at bright side has been "in planning" for 3 years.

No. Widening Perkins between driven and highland in preparation for an I-10 off-ramp at pecue in 10 years is more important.

Will just make the CF that is Highland/Perkins/I-10 at 5PM more insane, IMO

Baton rouge and esp. Ascension Parish remain in the early 1960s with their roads.
Still having to 4 lane major thoroughfares in this day and age.

They work well in master-planned suburbia.

Just ask Ascension Parish. Four years to add a suicide lane on 73. The most ignorant road expansion of all time. Will be torn up and four laned within two years of it being finished whenever that maybe.

Landscaped medians are far more attractive than a suicide lane. There's not as much retail development on that side of Perkins as the area towards Bluebonnet, Essen, etc.

I may be wrong, but I think newer road plans call for a median instead of suicide lanes. Someone with road planning may have more insight, but see Staring Lane as an example.

It's ridiculous that it hasn't already been done.

Also, when is the Stumberg extension going to open?

I wonder who actually plans or approves any of these road projects in EBR? How does this make sense to anyone?

I agree, that area of Perkins is not heavily commercial and would we well served we key turning lanes and even a true U turn lane at strategic places.

True U turn lanes are never used in EBR and would greatly help traffic flow if they were built into our major road systems.

Makes sense to me. Divided roadways are statistically safer and more appealing.

They did a good job on the section of Bluebonnet north of I-10, and Sherwood seems to have done okay. It will be fine so long as the median is wide enough for safe u-turns.

What were you told about not having a turn lane for the proposed widening when you asked about it at the open house that was held yesterday for public comment (as described in your link)?

The worst intersection in the parish is Lee/Brightside and Nicholson (La. 30).

How that intersection has been so bad for so long is mindboggling.

It's like something out of the 50s.

I guess I only see the projects south of the interstate. And all of those are terrible and without reason..... Like when it took 2.5 years to resurface Stanford
