Carrie Underwood isn't even the second most famous country star from Oklahoma.

I don't think I can. She's not more famous than Garth while being associated with the same music genre. Her and Blake and Toby Keith are all famous musicians, and Blake has done well with a career crossover. But none of those people are more famous than Garth or Mantle. And I would argue that Ron Howard is more famous than Carrie and Blake due to the length of his career and recent accomplishments in directing, but not more famous than Mantle or Garth.

Garth is a country music legend, and Mantle is a legend in the most famous American sport.

An entire nation of baby boomer men grew up idolizing Mickey Mantle throughout their childhoods when Baseball was America’s Pastime and he was on America’s premiere sports franchise in America’s premiere city. There hasn’t been another athlete beloved on that level nationally ever. It’s Mickey Mantle and it’s not even close. My dad and his friends still loved Mickey Mantle into their 50s. It’s Mickey Mantle and it’s not even close.

think a lot on here are equating modern dollars made and social media exposure to fame, in his era Mantle was a god, he was sort of the first Broadway Joe, hell I'd even take Johnny Bench over Brooks, Brooks is more recent so a lot of the young pups on here know who he is, and of course he's made a fortune, but he's just a country(sort of,) singer, Underwood? bawtch please! she parlayed winning a karaoke contest into bucks, that's pretty much it

that's why i said it's tough to compare the 2. they are from different eras.
but, i would say social media exposure is definitely an indicator of fame in today's society.

no question about it, but it's crazy today what is considered "fame," hell William Hung is "famous," as is "cash me outside" bitch, what these young'n's don't see is the difference in the eras, and refuse to do any research, in Mantle's era, of course zero social media, baseball was bigger than rock and roll, country music, or anything in Hollywood, the NFL was nothing, by comparison, NBA was a joke, by popularity comparison, Mantle was the biggest name on the biggest stage, and of course playing in the biggest city, his impact in his day was pretty yuuuuge, I'd argue
