Has anybody seen any real substantive story on Mississippi's recovery from Katrina? I caught a couple on NPR, but the major networks seem to be ignoring them. They were obliterated by the storm, and yet everyone talks about New Orleans and the levees breaking.

They recovered much quicker due to not having LA politics intervene

I guess that doesn't make for a good enough story for the media.

Unfortunately, it doesn't

I want to say that MS received something around 300,000 FEMA trailers in the same time period that LA received 20-30k

Isn't Pass Christian in MS?

If the answer is yes, then isn't ABC a major network?

If the answer is yes again, then isn't the op a whiny bitch?

Yes. Yes he is.

I think there is not as much national attention given to Mississippi as New Orleans because Mississippi effectively evacuated almost all of the 400,000 people from their coastal counties before the storm hit, as opposed to New Orlean's lame evacuation results. Even though Mississippi lost 235 people to the storm, they didn't have those eye catching videos of helicopters plucking desperate people off rooftops to spice up the networks' teasers before the news broadcasts.

and FYI, most people in this country have no idea where Bay St. Louis or other MS coastal towns are located. Everybody knows about New Orleans

Ive seen some stories, so I would not say its forgotten

A major u.s city was left inhabitable for months, something not seen before in our time, so its going to garner more attention naturally.
The GDP of the New Orleans region is probably close to that of the whole state of Mississippi.
So the the bigger the better as far as coverage goes, sorry

Eta: im growing tired of hearing about the whole deal anyway

Dunno why you're apologizing. I'm just looking for a discussion. I've never even visited the Miss Gulf Coast.

MS hasn't been forgotten, it just isn't close to the bulletin board material that NOLA news produced during the same time frame.

Much of the coast area is still a freaking wasteland.

I'm not putting them down for this - there are complicated reasons for it, of course. Just saying, your narrative is a bit off.

I was going more along the lines of government assisted recovery, but I know what you are saying, it was a pretty broad stroke

This.

I lived about half a mile off the beach in Long Beach when it hit.

We handled our shite afterwards and got on with it. Rode the gator down to the high school for ice and MRE's, but that was all the assistance we got. That was all we needed.

As someone who lived in BSL and lost everything, what happened in New Orleans is a much bigger story. It's unreal that shite happened in America.

I watched some footage, of NOLA, last night that I'd never seen, mainly because I was trying to put my life back together at the time, and I literally couldn't believe...I guess that Americans were treated that way. IDK, that story needs to be told over and over in the hopes that it never happens again.
