I've read a couple of times about them going to the Bahamas. Where did this information come from? Did the kids tell someone at the marina that or maybe one of their friends? Would $100 of fuel get them there and back? I don't know what has costs at a marina in Jupiter, FL, but that'll only buy 25 or 30 gallons at the marina around here.

it would most certainly get them to Bimini, where gas for a future trip could be purchased

The parents said they didn't have supplies for a trip to the Bahamas and they were confident that the Bahamas wasn't the plan.

They posted something about going over, which would have been exceptionally poor judgment. But even if they didn't go over, some terrible weather came from west to east that afternoon. I'm thinking they were outside the inlet and just got hit by some bad squalls a few miles out and found trouble. One of the 2 life jackets was still on the boat. Again, just terrible news.

I agree that your theory is most likely
I go offshore in my 19' boat all the time, and have been scared many times but never in real danger. no matter how big your boat though if you go out enough it's just a matter of time before you get puckered somehow

awful situation

The temperature dropped big time as did the pressure at about 1pm Friday. Winds kicked up too.

There was no need for them to be out there that day.

ETA: For the Bahamas to be accurate there'd have to evidence of enough cash or a credit card for fuel and to pay customs there about 150 bucks.

They would not hit Bimini from Jupiter. They would go to West End.

Thanks for proving my point. They were 14! My kids at 14 would be allowed in the pond with the john boat and a paddle without my supervision. That's it...no whining was going to sway me. Be an adult! Good Lord!

I'm all for letting kids be kids but sending two 14 year old boys into the ocean alone is just stupid.

Who only has two life jackets on their boat? I've got a locker full of them and a throwable. Seat cushions and coolers float, too.

These kids sound fricked, but there's a chance. What's the water temp? It's been about 48 to 54 hours?

$100,000 for Cohen's safe return! Talk about putting your money were your mouth is.

Does this imply they think there could be a kidnapping angle?

No. It was to entice people in the area with aircraft to assist.

They should have used the 100 G's for a good nanny. Maybe this could have been avoided.

At 14 my son will only be allowed to take the 60' Viking. Anything less would make me a bad parent.
