You'll be wasting your time. They may write you for Tylenol #3. But that's it. Anything stronger is triplicate. Nobody gets norco anymore. Many ER docs and GPs don't want to deal with triplicates. It gets worse. I've discharged folks with fractures, kidney stones, obvious dental abscesses (swelling) all with tramadol.

Wtf? I just went to the ER in late January and had 3 fractures in my foot and the doc wrote me a script for 15 Norco 7.5s.

Girlfriend just went to the ER for ovarian cyst and got a script of 10 vicoprofin.

I did mine 25 years ago prepping in a restaurant. Five years ago I was in a rush slicing potatoes getting ready for a catering job I was doing and damned if I didn't make the same mistake. It wasn't as bad this time though as I only took the top corner of skin and a sliver of flesh and nail. One would think I would use a cutting glove now but...no sir, I am to lazy. Sure I will slice it off again before I die.

I am not saying there is anything wrong with wanting a few vicodins or percocets because yes they are pretty awesome but I am saying if he wants actual pain relief ice is going to be way more effective for that specific injury and its not even really close.

Hell tell the OP where you two went. Maybe other states are less hardcore. Also, Houston is pill mill central. Really cracked down out here.

Only triplicates I've given since were for pediatric fractures.

My dentist still writes percocets every time I go.

If the guy is an M.D., he can write whatever the hell he wants...it is probably the "corporate policy" of the doc in a box where he works that dictates what he can and can not write while collecting a paycheck from them.

I don't care what I get prescribed as long as it's more effective than that 50mg tramadol....I'm gonna be upfront with the guy, I'm not Doctor shopping, he can call my pharmacy and the ER Doctor...and if he doesn't want to give me anything stronger than so be it, I'll just have to live with it until the pain subsides

The ER I'm at writes quite a few Norco scripts. Fentanyl patches once in a blue moon.

That sounds right to me.

Ice does help but when I take the ice off, it's back to throbbing and hurting in less than a minute

That's not a scar. This is a scar...

Just kidding. Did they give you shots to numb it before the sewed it up? The thought of a shot wearing off and it starting to throb is sickening to me.

FYI the main reason to go to an ER for something like that is in case it doesn't heal perfect, if it gets infected or something then at the ER you are already in the hospital system and they can move forward knowing how you were treated previously.

The ER is also part of a real hospital whereas a lot of those doc in the box are just money making sleazy businesses (not that hospitals are not) so they are going to have odd policies here and there. I wouldn't doubt they give out less strong meds for liability reasons and because frankly if you need it stronger you probably shouldn't be going there anyway.

But there's no reason to go to an ER for the follow up, I'd try to make an appt with someone.

I didn't look at your pics, but I would say slicing part of your thumb is a legitimate reason to want pain pills, I'm sure it hurts like hell.

That being said, just go to another emergency care or your PCP and tell them your pain level is high and they will write something more effective.

Yes, the doc loaded my thumb up with lidocaine before the stitches, he gave me enough for 6 hours (my thumb was double the normal size there was so much lidocaine injected) of numbness but around 4am I woke up cause my thumb was killing me, so I went and took 2 tramadols and it did absolutely nothing for pain...now I felt dizzy but my thumb was still throbbing, no matter where I moved it or held it (I elevate it) I was still in a lot of pain.

SAY NONE OF THIS when you are talking to the MD.

That sounds like a seeker. I BELIEVE you! I'm just giving you tips. Apparently Texas and Louisiana are still different worlds despite FDA and DEA changes.

Good luck to you. Meantime stick that bitch in a plastic glove and put it in an ice bath for a few minutes. Dont want it getting wet. When numb take it OUT. don't be a dumbass and give yourself frostbite in the summer time.

I would not seek pain pills for that

Take some tylenol about 3 hours after Ibuprofen. Keep alternating.

It should be feeling better pretty quickly.

Ouch!!! How did you do that? Go see your primary Doctor. There are many nerve endings in our fingers so you have a double whammy for pain. So sorry, hope you can get some help. Keep it elevated above level of your heart if you can.

Hit it with a hammer. Pretty soon, you won't care about the pain from the cut.

If you self-amputate, you'll probably get hooked up with something with a little more strength. 10 digits are overrated anyways.
