DOs will still be less competitive than MDs for residencies, even with the merger.

The merger will be a good thing, though, as a lot of the DO residencies are flat out poor places to train.

I'm going to need 911moto to confirm. Nonetheless, unless your name says DDS behind it I'm going with the other guy.

My name will have DDS behind it in 2 years. And I'm telling you it's the exact same thing

I chose my Internist partly based on his education..UT Southwestern medical school, Residency at Johns Hopkins.

Another doc was recommended to me but after checking credentials, I saw medical school in the Caribbean.

Also, a very well respected MD once told me to always pick the Caucasian male MD when in doubt. He said it's much harder for Caucasian males to get accepted into medical schools & residencys, so the ones chosen are usually the best of the best and not just chosen b/c of their gender, race or skin color. He said it's totally not PC to admit to this, but it's true.
I don't know if I'd go as far as him. I only discriminate against low tier medical schools.

I can and have passed exams that MDs can't and don't because they don't recieve the training I do. I turned down allopathic education to have an additional tool in my bag with osteopathy.

MD and DO are virtually the same thing. Most older Ostophatic schools are probably more selective than LSU and a lot of state schools.

I've seen incompetence and excellence from both. My preference would depend entirely on the Doctor's experience, recommendations from friends, convenience, etc.

Yep, seen incompetence and excellence in both. Depends on the individual doc.

And in about 4 years, all MDs and DOs will be applying to and trained in the same residency programs - so the distinction will be almost meaningless.

Exactly, I worked with Pulmonary Fellowship program at a hospital in Boston. We had both MDs and DOs that applied and got into the fellowship program. They all seemed qualified to me. And apparently to those who accepted them into the training program.

I've worked with roughly 700 providers, all my favorite are DO, minus a few exceptions. MD are now begrudgingly discussing diet, sleep, inflammation, etc. , DOs been preaching this for years.

DDS and DMD are the exact same thing. It just depends on the school and how they classify their degree. The licensing boards recognize them as equal.

I have a DDS degree. A few years ago, I received a letter from the new Dean of the Dental School explaining a change in the focus of the school. Graduates would now receive a DMD degree.

They offered me a chance to change my degree from DDS to DMD. I assumed that they would just issue a new diploma with the DMD on it. (but knowing the new dean, he probably would just send out some white out and a sharpie so I could change it myself)

I opted to keep my DDS.

Proof that there is no difference in the two degrees.

Thanks for the input however I am still waiting for 911moto to make the final definitive call.

So much dumb in this thread.

I loved the "I check where they went to residency instead of medical school" comment, as if you know and can judge the competency of the residency program.

If you want to get a good opinion on a physician, try asking people that have seen said person or even ask their colleagues. I have professors in med school I wouldn't let check my patellar reflex who have gone to highly prestigious academic institutions.

Patient's are poor judges of a physician. You must be a first year.

No shite, people that went to prestigious places can suck.
