Look, you're probably a good kid.
My advice would be to stop worrying about what older people are doing and worry about getting into the pants of 17 year old girls. Lord knows 90% of this board is worried about that but the difference is you wouldn't be arrested for it.

you are right kids do love it, but adults go fricking crazy over, they are missing the point that it is something their kids should enjoy more than them.
You've never been to a Grateful Dead concert obviously.

i think i kinda understand what he's trying to convey....
i think he's trying to say it's one thing to have fun and enjoy yourself at MG, and it's another to do it in excess and become an embarrassment not only to yourself, but to those around you too... and i think he's trying to speak more to the latter....
and i think we've all seen "that guy" that just looks like a total douche canoe, but still thinks he's the shite and god's gift all intertwined.... i know i have... and it's funny and sad at the same time...

but uptown NOLA during season was my favorite place to live. Add st pattys too since I lived above the bulldog on magazine. That parade is nuts lol
It is great time. The family aspect is so overlooked.

I'm 17 and I fricking love Mardi Gras right now. I'm saying its childish to be in a krewe and act like its an end all be all thing as an Adult. The only reason I said this is because I know people like this.
you're 17...Relax, accept it for what it is and have fun now, and wait a few years (ie til you're out of college) to draw conclusions. No need to get worked up over what adults are doing right now when you should be having fun

Yep. We hung out with better than Ezra and 2 of their moms on pleasant and St Charles for a week night parade. Uptown is the tits. That was good clean fun. Other times, we could get down and dirty as necessary.

Considering my family is considered wealthy I'm not bashing Elitists at all..

I've skimmed this thread and the bottom line is you just don't get it. I had a blast as a kid going to the parades and catching stuff; enjoyed even more in college while drunk making out with some girl I didn't know. I've been riding since 2007 and love it. Yes, I'm one of those 40 something's now and I act a fool to a point. The thing is without us 40 something's and the guy's that are older than that; there would be no Mardis Gras. How many of your friends can afford the thousands of dollars of throws much less the million dollar floats. This might almost sound like it needs to be on the Poly Board but us older guys pay for everyone else to have a good time at Mardis Gras. Hail Endymion PB-A

My house is filled with boxes and bags of throws right now.
Hail Thoth!
Besides all that...I've never missed a Mardi Gras my whole life. You can have good family fun as well as get weird on Bourbon Street. You don't have to get frat boy wasted every day of Mardi Gras.

I always tell people that 'Mardi Gras' is a French term meaning 'a million drunks'.

This part is overlooked. Looking forward to funding the party sooner than later.
