Other cities all over the U.S. have enacted smoking bans in bars YEARS ago...and the bars are still open and thriving.

Some. Some aren't. If you can go right outside the city line and find a bar that caters to your habits, you'll do it.

It should be a business decision, not government.

And smokers have the right to go outside and smoke. Why can't you understand that?

BOOM

Also for "don't tell me how to run my business" crowd, are you saying you should not be forced to carry liability insurance too? What about complying with safety codes? You see, these regulations are for the overall benefit if everyone.

It should be the decision of a private business to decide what they will allow and not allow on their own premises.

If a smoker didn't affect dozens of people around him/her, then I could agree. Unfortunately, that's not the case.

It's also my business. People don't have to patronize my business if they don't want to.

Don't go to places that allow smoking. Boom. You're not bothered.

So your position is to suspend the application of public health/safety laws because it's a private business?

Shocking.

You mean I don't have to get the government to make laws and regulations to protect me? I can make decisions all on my own?

That would be great, but it only works if every business makes the decision I like. If someone somewhere is doing something that I'm not fond of then there needs to be a law. Again, that's how freedom works.

No, I agree with the regulation change, WTF.

You agree that the government thinks you are too dumb to make your own health decisions and go to bars where they don't allow smoking

Yes but smoking indoors is considered a public health issue due to the well known and documented risks of second hand smoke to others.

If you owned a restaurant, if you were doing something that could be a public health issue(ex: serving contaminated meat)...you would get shut down by the health department would you not?

Not sure how me drinking a beer has potential health issues for someone else.

If you are concerned about that health risk then don't go to a bar that allows smoking. It's a real easy decision to make.

When did people start to hate it?

I think a person should be free to go anywhere they please without being exposed to harmful conditions.

If you had a sign on the door that said "WE SERVE CONTAMINATED MEAT" then I would think this is a good comparison

You can. Avoid places that have "harmful conditions." Make grown up decisions.

Yes I think there are a lot of people out there like the ones who want "freedom" from wearing motorcycle helmets and seatbelts in a car. Screw everyone else, it's all about me.
