Woah, there are 4 people in that thing.

I would definitely do that for $400 in SF if it was in a badass area and was only for like a year or something.

I think these stories always fail to mention that the minimum wage in SF is nearly $15 an hour. People scrapping by and budgeting can afford to live in something other than a box in the Bay Area

Meh! It's a fantastic place, and a favorite vacation spot, but cost of living is a factor in evaluating a good place to live. And SF fails that factor to an extreme.

Being in San Francisco, I expected the interior to be more decorated, along with the exterior

It looks like they made it out of scraps from a job site.

I'd say it's pretty smart actually.

I'm convinced those people like this and on the Tiny House Hunters who claim they want to "simplify their life" are just making up excuses for why they're broke.

That's only 30K a year. If a box costs 400/month, I don't think they are getting anything nice on that paycheck.

I have a buddy that Uber'ed to work in the Bay Area every day for the 2 years he lived there. It was cheaper than paying for parking at his office and was much faster than public transportation.

I would go to Popeye's for two weeks straight for Lunch and Dinner and eat only Red Beans & Rice.

They would know I was in the house.

That's $31,200/yr, before taxes. A couple each making this wouldn't even be able to afford a $3600/month 1 bdrm.

With the median rent for a one-bedroom apartment at $3,670 a month

this just absolutely blows my mind

Same. That's triple my mortgage on 2200sf in Nashville.

Not a horrible deal if he actually gets along with his roommates and he spends most of his time outside the apartment. I wouldn't do it, but then again, I'm not a poor.

My little brother lives in Oakland working a low wage job in SF(I think he gets more than minimum wage by now though). He lives in some shared art house with a bunch of artists. Pays $450 a month for his own tiny bedroom in this huge house. He shares the rest of the house with the other artists. Not a bad setup for him.

Even without a car or having to pay car insurance...he really has to budget out there. Says he loves it there and loves the art scene there...just wishes he could afford to do more stuff there.

Well, a couple both making minimum wage shouldn't be looking to rent somewhere that costs $3,600 a month.

Either find a dirt cheap 1BR or don't live in SF. I don't make a ton of money so I don't attempt to live in Manhattan.

Not everything in SF is $3000 a month. Also note how I said "Bay area"

If you can tolerate the whacko politics, the homeless people everywhere and the flamboyant and oh so festive gay crowd, then yes, SFO is faaaabulous dahling.
