It's really the only fair way for both involved. In the end it will catch some loud obnoxious offenders & prove them guilty plus it'll likely curb any overly aggressive police work that might would occur otherwise. The next logical step IMO

I completely agree.

OK, seriously, are you just acting stupid? Ever heard of a cop letting someone off for a speeding ticket? The answer to your ridiculous question is "yes," cops are allowed to pick and choose which laws they want to enforce.

Stop arguing the merits of the individual cig law. We all know that is not the issue. Stop sensationalizing that this guy was murdered by cops for selling untaxed cigs.

Stop being the thread police. The merits of the stupid tax law are directly related to the incident.

The cop did not put him in a chokehold for selling untaxed cigs.

He resisted arrest. Force was used. He died

Some of you act like this is equivalent to the cop walking up and announcing "selling cigs without tax is illegal" and then shooting the guy in the head.

HOMICIDE: Medical examiner says NYPD chokehold killed Staten Island dad Eric Garner

quote:

Eric Garner’s death by chokehold was a homicide.

The Staten Island man who collapsed after being placed in the banned restraint by a police officer died from compression of the neck and chest, the New York City Medical Examiner ruled Friday.

The 43-year-old victim’s asthma, obesity and high blood pressure were also contributing factors in his death, the autopsy determined.

It was the latest development in a case that sparked national outrage after The Daily News obtained video showing Officer Daniel Pantaleo putting Garner in the chokehold.

Garner’s widow said she was relieved that the ME confirmed what had been suspected for weeks.

This is good news but I'd be surprised if that cop does any time.

I'll be ready when the officer is acquitted and a riot ensues.

Says the dude with a superman/starwars pic. LOL!!

What does this even mean?

The star wars part is a rebel ship fighting back against Darth Sidious, Vader and the Empire, hardly bootlicking. And Superman, well, he's always fought against corrupt cops and politicians from his first issue ever. He was actually originally written as a character that had Robin Hood like overtones that fights for Truth, justice and the American way and that's not bootlicking.

maybe you should watch the video of him dying. he didnt resist arrest whatsoever. youre full of shite and commenting on something you have barely any knowledge of. He was antagonized from the get go by the cops. The Cops rushed witnesses out the way left and right and lied about it. murder.

He said, eight times, I can't breathe, while onlookers pleaded to help him.

'Force was used'. Chokeholds are banned under NYPD law since 1993. Thanks for playing!

Yeah, homicide doesn't necessarily mean they found the cop doing anything wrong. They'll do what they can to justify it.

I mentioned this reasoning about 20 pages that way <----

The laws surrounding the incident are the real issue. The laws that brought those cops to that place. THey are fricking stupid laws.

quote:

The cop did not put him in a chokehold for selling untaxed cigs.
He resisted arrest. Force was used. He died

The more laws you pass that require cops to come into contact with civilians more often, you increase the odds of these type of incidents. While that doesn't mean we should abolish, say murder laws, it does, at least to me, suggest we should probably not have stupid fricking laws that create the tense situation in the first place.
