Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to stick with it for the experience and hope for the best. Yeah, my accounting experience is with my dad's companies, although it was pretty much the basics. I'm hoping it'll be enough to get my foot in the door for an interview

Does anyone have any advice on where would be some good locations for a solid chance at a big 4 internship? Would obscure locations be better or would places like Houston, Dallas, etc... give me a better shot?

How much do our location preferences actually factor into the process? If I really want to work in a specific city, would I have a strong chance of doing so, or is it more of a crapshoot in terms of take what you get?

Drop with both public and industry, in locations you would like to live in permanently and a few that just seem cool for a 3 month summer stint. Don't drop in so many that all of the interviews overwhelm you.

Drop with each of the big 4 (highest paying, more locations) and then a few more based on the above. You'll learn more with a smaller company.

Completed this program this past fall. Its a great program and teaches you more than just audit. Really prepared me well for resume writing, networking, interviewing, and how to properly behave in a corporate setting. Glen Sumners is funny/evil depending on if he likes you or if you're a good student. Interned in NYC and have accepted a full time offer once I graduate. And the program actually helped me receive 2 separate job offers because i kept in touch with a firm once the summer started. I fully recommend it to any successful student

You're at the epitome of a LSU CIA student. Average GPA, no work experience, and bring nothing to the table. With that said, you will probably get interviews and even an internship, depending on how much can 'please' the coordinator.

I didn't do the CIA program, but received a big 4 offer. Your 2.7 is pretty low. Bringing it up to a 3.0 is big IMO. That will get you in the door with a lot of places. Some require 3.2 etc. After you get in the door it's obviously all about your people skills. Do you have any connections?

I could get a lot of letters from Halliburton, but they pick their interns in the first round and I highly doubt my résumé is first round worthy

I work at a Big 4, and although its tough sometimes, the experience is second to none and overall I really enjoy it. I'm in external audit, but I work closely with Our Internal Audit folks and the company's internal audit as well. If you do it right then IA can be a good path to upper management, just depends where you go.

ETA: also I am in Dallas and it is a great market for economic growth and has a lot of job opportunities. I really enjoy this city, tons of young people as well. I have heard similar things about Charlotte and Nashville, and Houston is always an option as well.

For the group you interned with. A great deal of effort and $ is spent towards recruiting interns. It's a waste when they accept the offer but ask to work in a different city.

lots of truth in this statement, but some people like it and even if you don't, it can be a good stepping stone.

It was a great program for me. Dropped with 10 companies, got 9 interviews. Took a full time job offer at the big 4 that I didn't intern with. Had several job offers and contacts due to my original interviews

Houston is your best shot. I work at a big4 and we are looking for staff left and right. We have hired temps to help us through busy season.

I'm in my second year and many people I know (2nd and 3rd years have quit). It's the nature of public accounting but there are so many higher paying jobs with better hours that people are quitting left and right.

Literally the worst piece of "advice" in either this thread of the other thread you have. Pay absolutely 0 attention to this.
