Speaking of which, check out the professors jumping to her defense in the comments. Only none of them have ever worked with her.

Her recent colleagues aren't saying a word. And were quick to jump in and fill her shoes when she was booted from the program.

The fact is the instructors have been pouring themselves into that program for years while this tenured professor made every effort to screw it up.

I've seen it occur in multiple departments. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Yeah he got arrested and it was all over the news.
A student accused him of peeping in 2006 and a fellow professor accused him of entering his home and groping him as he slept or something like a year later. I think all charges were eventually dropped.

I really enjoyed his classes at LSU and he was always a great guy to talk with at The Chimes or wherever I would see him. He never seemed creepy to me. He actually seemed to GAF about his students, which was rare.

I really liked Mulcahy in the late 1980's. He might have been my favorite professor.

That may explain it but it doesn't excuse it. Your job is not a counseling session.

The second statement about a "counseling session" is probably not what you meant to state.

As to the first statement, I would agree, it is not an excuse. I am simply stating that many really get caught up in an emotional whirlwind when a divorce cranks up. Second guessing, meeting with your supervisor and requesting some leave so you can get away from work and sort things out in your personal life is the way to go. When I went through mine, I met with my bosses and pulled back from clinical administrative and teaching duties for a bit. The only thing I kept going during that time was providing clinical supervision to my interns, and that seemed to be an area of solace for me as it forced me to interact with interns and patients, as well as keep up with the current literature. I know that not everyone can do that, but I was fortunate to be able to, and would do it again - if the same thing went down. That said, after a long marriage, I have no plans to go down that road again.

I've had professors tell dirty jokes. I've had a student tell a dirty joke in my class (80's). No one had any issue.

They are adults. They'll live.

I wonder where he ended up building it.

Pretty shaky ground for firing a tenured professor, if you ask me.

I agree, sounds like more fun than most of the classes I took.

using a slang term for vagina that implies cowardice

If you look at the etymology of using the word pussy as an insult, it actually doesn't come from being used as a slang word for vagina.

Holy crap. I thought I followed that case pretty closely but I had NO IDEA the kind of shite that came out in her disciplinary hearing. This chick was much, much crazier than I thought and needed to be fired with the quickness. The article starts pretty favorably for her but then lays out the facts. Wow.

quote:

While meeting with her students' mentor teachers in nearby Iberville Parish, Buchanan apparently upset them when she criticized their teaching methods, as well as the job performance of Ed Cancienne, the parish superintendent, whom she'd referred to as "that crazy superintendent." Once Cancienne got wind of her comments—around the same time Ginn complained—he promised that he'd personally make sure Buchanan was arrested if she ever again set foot in one of his schools. The principal of an elementary school also banned Buchanan from the premises because, she wrote in a letter solicited by the investigators, the professor "berated" her student teachers and, in some cases, the work of the mentor teachers. "Very often, not only the students but my teachers would leave these meetings in tears," the principal wrote. There were accusations that Buchanan divulged to her class that she was sleeping with a married man, mentioned the kind of lingerie and sexual positions she preferred, and went on about her son's sex life (all of which she disputes).

This isn't the worst of it but clearly is grounds for dismissal. The local media made it all sound like she got fired for just dropping some F bombs.

Isnt she a professor teaching students to become teachers for kindergartens?

If so then her language is pretty unprofessional; firing her is a little extreme however.

Well never mind sounds like she's bitter and went way too far on the deep end.

If you ever see a journalist write something about a subject that you are close to or that you have expert knowledge in, you will quickly realize that they are

This is so fricking true and probably deserves its own thread. On multiple occasions a newspaper article has come out that I have intimate, expert knowledge on and the reporter so fricks it up and tells it with 20% of the details. To the unsuspecting reader, it would seem you're getting the whole truth but it's not even close to reality.

The first time or two it happened, I chalked it up to shoddy journalism but over time I learned that reporters and the media have a massive agenda and purposely misrepresent facts to fit their narrative.
