SO much dumbass in this thread.

First off, the state/LSU didn't pay anything for the stadium expansion.

Secondly, LSU decided to get rid of all its instructors and replace them with PHDs and TAs back during Emmerts Master Plan push. So while I understand that budgets are tight right now, a lot of LSU's budget issues are of their own making. Its just so much easier to blame someone else.

If there was no industry, there would be ZERO tax money collected.

Collecting 2% tax on $100,000,000 is better than 10% on $0.00.

Furthermore, the supporting industries, such as equipment, transportation, catering that have popped up directly to support the film industry. NOLA now has soundstages. I believe the editing/post production industry has started to move to town. None of this would exist without the film industry being here.

Why is this so hard for people to understand?

LSU bares responsibility for the decisions it makes.

This board is constantly full of "Jindal cut my education" posts. I really don't believe that even a simple majority of people in the state understand how the state government works, nor the restrictions on what they can/cant cut.

Just out of curiosity, do you/have you attended LSU, and if so, when?

I am just curious so I ask questions, that's all.

Regarding tax credits, these people think it's not worth it. So there is obviously an issue.

I'd say at most 25%.

Don't worry about traffic circle. He's really hitting it hard this morning between this thread, the iPhone thread and the law school thread.

I agree with this.

More selective admissions is the way to go. Limit the number who get into the program. It would increase the prestige of the program and probably improve the quality also.

I know that they have added GPA restrictions to get into the PETE college. I think it is like a 3.4 or something pretty high. Glad I graduated when I did because I would not have made it into the college

Pump the brakes. Tuition is already high for out of state. I am paying 19K per semester with another 9K for the summer.

Exactly. How about make the in state more expensive?

Make the TOPS program more exclusive.

There's students in college right now that shouldn't be there...and they're driving up the cost for everyone else.

I'll be a senior in PETEE in the fall. I have had multiple classes with 200+ in them. At the PETE crawfish boil it was told that incoming freshman declare PETE as a major at a 20:1 ratio....

If they were legit they'd go to the freshmen field course this summer and jump ahead almost a year in course requirements. (8 hours)

Yes & Yes

Going to some of these meetings for parents and learning how tops works can piss you off.

All money should go directly to the school and not the individuals.

Both of my kids would like to relocate back to Louisiana. The state needs to realize that jobs are being driven away and needs to do something to bring the people who are fleeing to other states for jobs back.

There are a lot of freshman and sophomores in the PE program. Most of them do not graduate in PE. Just FYI

That's engineering in general. Been like that for years. PE is probably the most popular, so it seems like it happens more than the other departments, but I'd be willing the bet the drop out rates are equal across the board in mechanical, chemical and petroleum.

Petroleum, mechanical, and electical engineering are like Pre Med and Architecture. Everyone declares it freshman year, but very few actually make it through the program and graduate there. The freshman ratio is probably high, but what is the graduating class ratio of students to staff?

Here's the deal though, LSU grads automatically think that LSU has the best engineering program in the state...but the only thing they have on LaTech is the petroleum engineering program.

IMO, LaTech has the best engineering program. Student to teacher ratio. Hands on experience. Quality of education.

ETA I've heard many stories about students flunking out of LaTech engineering, then going to LSU and excelling. That could just be from approaching the subject a second time though.
