Radio Frequency Ablation ( Nerve Burn) is the best thing that has ever happened to my back.
It lasts a years more, it allows me to play golf and do yard work.
Pain Management Doctors perform it as a out patient procedure.
Takes a week to get results.

Thanks for all of the replies, I had never even heard of this until I started having the issues. I talked to my PT yesterday and if my upper MRI comes back okay next week I'm going to start with an inversion table and were going to try some dry needling and see if that does anything.

Anyone in here diagnosed with DDD? Just recently got diagnosed with it and didn’t get any good explanation of it from my doctor. Looking for maybe a litttke more information from someone who actually has it going on in their back
Get into a car accident and Spencer/Gordon/Morris/DD will have doctors more than willing to say it's all because of the accident.

I posted on here 6 days ago when I was having some mild pain and slight mobility issues. Now I am in a full blown "episode". Can hardly walk due to pain. Tingling and numbness all way down the right leg to my toes. When last I saw a GP(not my normal doc since he is on vacation till this Thursday), suggested Tylonol and gave a script for muscle relaxers. This isn't working. In the past, when I had these flare ups(about once a year), I would get a steroid shot. Well i had taken 4 steroid pills back a month ago for an left foot issue I was having. I need some pain relief bad.

I am 55 years old and a little bit overweight. Have had this off and on since I was 30. Most of the yoga stretching exercises I looked at this morning, I couldn't due if my life depended on right now. Has anyone done dry needling? Chiropractic vs. Physical Therapy. I plan on getting an inversion table asap. Any help is appreciated.

If you don't mind reading stuff a little on the geeky side, id read Dr Stuart McGill. The best source out there on back issues.

The last thing I would do is put it off
I had this issue when I was 25. Back started feeling weak and I had a random tweak in the pool when I was jumping up to spike the ball in volleyball . Hurt like hell and got some meds
I did PT for and it helped in the short term then would get worse then feel good again when I got manual therapy.
One day it finally came to a head and I blew my back out trying to open an old window. Ruptured L4-L5/L5S1. Had a double lamenectomy and was messed up for about 3-4 months. It was awful
It is obviously much better now, but I still have moments where my back tightens up or is sore when I do a lot of activity. I’ll have to manage it the rest of my life

Try going low carb. It’ll cut down on the inflammation and that will give you some relief.

Thank you. I will seriously call tomorrow and make an appt. I’ve been putting more of an emphasis on strengthening my core/upper body & legs the past couple weeks, and my back has been hurting less. But after a couple of lazy days where we stayed home & watched movies, it’s back to pain. I just went for a walk to get moving again and try to head it off before it gets bad.
I needed to hear you say not to put it off. I don’t know why I keep hoping it’ll magically go away. It’s been over a year and it hasn’t yet.

Thanks Bamafan. Evil, doubt you will get anyone if you call tomorrow(holiday). I'm waiting to call too. Still hoping to get some feedback on chiropractic vs. PT? My daughter mentioned she has a friend that had success with Dry Needling. Anyone else have good results going this route?

Whoops Tuesday!
Let me know what you hear or decide to do.
I’ve had a couple of (generally sane, non-crunchy) friends swear by chiro and acupuncture. I’m not sure how different acupuncture is from dry needling, but they say it helped the pain more than anything. I’ve always been super skeptical of chiropractors, so it’s taking me a while to come around.

What’s a good doctor to see for back pain? Neurologist? Don’t want to see a chiro

I thought the same thing. I am very tight and always have been playing sports when I was younger, so I assumed the pain down my leg was a tight/sore/hamstring issue. Little did I know it was nerve pain. Took six months of putting it off to realize
Point is, take it from someone who got to a point where things were so bad I needed surgery. You want to avoid that at all costs.

Last spring I started having sharp pains in my lower back/buttock on my left side (I was 48 at the time). The pain spread to my left butt cheek and left leg. I went to a chiropractor for a week or two with no relief.
Finally went to an orthopedic surgeon and had x-rays done and was diagnosed with DDD. He gave me a cortisone shot in my back and I went to PT for about 3 weeks and the pain was gone.
I've done some stretching at home since then, but recently I've been having some pain in my left leg again, so I may have to get another shot and some PT.
Has anyone tried VAX-D or another traction device besides an inversion table?

The steroid shots can help shrink the bulging discs hopefully eliminating the numbness
They last about two years for me at a time. Just about due for another. I start having unreal pain that starts in my left ankle and creeps up my leg.

Age 41
5-11/205 lbs
L5-S1 herniated/L4-L5 bulging 2009
L4-L5 herniated 2016
I can just move or twist the wrong way and I'm out of commission for 3-5 days or more.
I've had PT, been countless times to chiropractor, had numerous steroid injections, and used an inversion table. A couple different physician owned medical facilities in BR have suggested surgery (fusion in '09 and microsurgery in '16). I declined the fusion and they wanted to get me on the pain pill regiment. Nope. I walked in to a different place in 16 after herniating the second one and was recommended for microsurgery before they saw the MRI. This was after about a month of numbness in most of my right leg and no relief from the chiropractor. A steroid injection allowed the feeling back in my leg eventually.
Something happened a few months ago, maybe February, where I went down hard. Excruciating unbearable pain radiating from my lower back, right hip, and down my right leg. It was so bad I couldn't stand. I couldnt walk. Usually I can find a laying position where the pressure is relieved and start to relax, but not then. I rolled around on the floor in my house for hours. After a couple hours of my wife working a Wahl heated back massager on my hip, i was able to go to sleep. Woke up the next day on the floor and my leg was completely numb and it's been that way since.
Chiropractor didn't really help. Temporary comfort, that's about it. PT usually made it worse. Inversion table did not help. Injection helped some, but I wonder how much worse it's getting when the juice makes it to where I can't feel that it is messed up.

Spine specialist PT here. Lots of the problems described in this thread sound postural. The common thing people like to say is that “we weren’t meant to walk upright.” This is false. We evolved perfectly to walk upright. What we were NOT meant to do is SIT all day on a computer at work, then again on the couch when we get home in a slumped position while we crane our necks forward to stare at our iPhones. I would recommend anyone in this thread who suffers from low back or neck pain google McKenzie lumbar roll, can be bought on amazon for $22 and makes a world of difference for a lot of my patients. Also, if you have a job where you sit at a desk all day, google McKenzie lumbar extension exercises. Lots of disc issues can be corrected with these, but you have to perform them 80-100 times a day repetitively for it to work.

Good points. I struggle with posture as well. I used to drive a ton for work and that killed me. I also sat for prolonged periods
I am pretty sure I have hip alignment issues. Any suggestions on how to help with that and/or stretches?
