Yikes, that won't get you into a ghetto private/catholic school any where in Missouri

They start in the $15,698 to $18,348 per year range, in just st.louis/county.

Lafayette has the Early College Academy where you graduate from high school with enough credits for an associates degree. It’s not a boarding school though. It’s on SLCC’s campus.

Do any kids, male or female, go on to be really successful, either academically or professionally?

all academics and no sports
That's what did it for me. A recruiter wanted me to go, but I didn't want to give up sports.

Academic all-state, 2nd base. Suck on that, nerds! I'll probably force my kids to consider it a little more than I did

I knew a guy that taught there, he said the 30% of the students entered the school as gay and like 80% left gay Thats all I got. And yes, they are all much much smarter than my kids.

How is the pressure?

it can get pretty intense. especially if you are a hotshot. i had aspirations of getting a college degree in computer science, but when i lived in a dorm with computer geniuses, it cut me down to size and i decided to focus on the humanities. so it was like a 2 year liberal arts school for me and I'm not complaining.

the staff truly wants the students to succeed and it is a much more supportive environment than what i had while at LSU. similar to what i experienced in grad school at Tulane.

if your student is thriving at the local high school, then i would not recommend LSMSA. but if your student want something different from their high school experience, as i did (wanting to get out from under my parents roof, avoid the fights that i was getting into, etc.) then I would look into LSMSA. it will also broaden your students horizons from just your local area to a student body cross section of Louisiana as a whole. You will not get that anywhere else.

This is not true, Sacred Heart of Grand Coteau is also a boarding school.
Correction - only public boarding school in the state.

I had one friend that went there from our high school - she was really smart but not as smart as some of the other girls in our class - most of us lost touch with her the next year

I could’ve gone but was so socially inept that I didn’t want to live away from home

My daughter could’ve gone - but she didn’t want to live away from home either

Personally I don’t see the point when you can take college level classes at your high school or community college. The bigger cities in LA probably have comparable programs without the boarding.

I thought it was for younger kids. At 18 why isn't she going to College?

It’s a high school, 10-12. It’s for gifted kids. Enormously high number of LBGT kids, especially in the arts programs. My niece went, wasn’t gay before, then came back after a year a flaming liberal bisexual future theater major. If you don’t care that your kid is unsupervised between the ages of 15-18, send your kid there and they’ll be fricked up for life.

Our daughter went and played softball at st. Marys. Yes some very smart kids, yes some strange kids. But, lots of normal kids that need more than they can get at their local school.

I went and toured it way back in the day and basically immediately decided it wasn’t for me. I’m still not sure if I made the right decision or not

It's for really smart people. It's public school so you just pay for the boarding. I think you have to take a test in order to get in.

My daughter went to LSMSA from her sophomore year to graduation. She could have started any school in the university of Louisiana system with 57 credit hours. Instead she decided to go to her ole mans alma mater and only got like 30 hours credit or something like that. LSU does not take the matriculation credits that the smaller schools do so basically her AP and testing credit is all she got from LSU. She now holds an undergrad degree and a master’s from LSU In history and works full time at Middleton library while getting a second masters in library science. She is happily married and seems to be normal socially. Overall, I think the LSMSA experience was great for her and saved me a ton of money with accelerated credit and scholarships.
