Friend of mine's trashy ho of a sister got sent there when her parents couldn't control her any more. It didn't take and she's still a trasy ho.
LSMSA is great for the kid from a rural or small town who has the potential to go to an elite college but whose school doesn't offer the necessary courses to prepare them. If you're from BR, NOLA, and probably Shreveport or Laffy, you can get that without leaving home, unless you just want the boarding school experience.

Half of that is correct. When I was in high school, they tried getting me to go there and I was definitely not "very smart". I am socially awkward as frick though

Feedback please if you have any experiences with the school or heard reviews. Thanks...
Her best friend from that school is equally successful.

It’s also great for the kids who didn’t grow up with money and their parents can’t afford to send them somewhere to get a top tier education.
A lot of very smart kids miss out on a lot of opportunities in this state because their parents can’t afford to send them to a private school or move to a district with a decent public school

I know a couple girls that graduated from there, one had graduated from a PA program, the other is now in medical school. Contrary to the opinions her they are very outgoing socially, and one is even married to a guy!

Nope. It's a public high school. There is no tuition. Any Louisiana resident can attend if they can get through the application process.
The fees are for room and board, lab fees, and things like that.
No student that qualifies for a spot in an incoming class will be turned away for inability to pay even the small fees to attend. They will get federal grants for the student as far as they can. A fundraising foundation was started for the school and it has a fund established that will fill any remaining need for students who otherwise would miss out on attending due to financial reasons.
They have a brand new dorm they're just finishing up, too. The facilities are pretty impressive for a high school. Plus, it's literally on NSU's campus and they have an agreement with the university (and a number of other smaller universities in the state) where LSMSA classes transfer into college credit if you enroll in those colleges. If you wish to attend one of the smaller schools in the state, you could be 18 years old and basically enter as a junior and have your undergraduate degree complete by the time you're 20.

class of 01 here. LSMSA is basically starting college early. all academics and no sports. so there are definitely pros and cons.
for me i wouldn't change my decision. about half the kids are weird but the other half are normal. i hear they start with sophomore now. when i was there it was only junior and seniors.
i have 2 daughters now and if they were interested in attending LSMSA in high school i would seriously consider it. best HS academic environment in the state, no question.

How is the pressure? My wife (no pics) went to Ben Franklin and she was so burnt out by it she took a two year break before going to college.

In today's day and age I don't know why you'd send your kid to a boarding school? If they are already smart then they will likely graduate at the very top of their class with a high SAT/ ACT score and whatever else colleges ask for. That will get them almost anything they need.
Not seeing your kid and not seeing your parents for weeks at at time is not worth it imo.
I went to Del Rio HS in Del Rio Tx for a year, completely shite school. I was friends with a girl that was incredibly smart and her bro was a couple years ahead of us and went to Harvard. No idea where she went but probably Ivy league. Sure its anecdotal but you don't need a great HS to learn enough to go to a great college.

Can’t they play sports for natchitoches high if they can make the team?

I knew a couple kids (very smart) who went there but theyre burn out druggies now

It's a strong academic environment, but as stated there are a lot of weird kids there and some kids go off the rails with that little supervision.
I wouldn't bother unless your kid is shooting for an exceptional university. Know a lot of LSMSA alums who ended up at LSU or even Southeastern or ULL who went into nursing, teaching, are stay at home moms, etc. Seems like a complete waste if those are their aspirations.

school is fine, just like all public schools kinda leans to the left, My son's carpool buddy to the Montessori was a girl whose parents both went to LAMSA..they were fine, the mom had a PhD in mathematics and taught at Houston University and her husband was in the LA national guard (something in IT), he might have had a PhD too but you would never know, neither went by "doctor"...that had to move west due to Katrina...don't think they ever went back to Jackson Barracks..probably still in Texas.

No direct athletics there but one of the guys I know who went there was allowed to be a lineman at a local HS which offered football (probably Natchitoches Central HS).

I believe so. IIRC they also have one of the few or maybe the only HS rowing team in the state.
