Again, extrapolation and the understanding metro testing far outweighs the rural availability may be leading to a death rate you can't even have substantiated now. So, actually, I'll just ask this: Do you trust any of the data and if you do, why?
The number of tests performed is completely irrelevant to this entire situation.
This is literally the number of deaths per population.
There are no data points missing here.

Hold up. Birx and Fauci are stating that testing is absolutely critical to the understanding scope of COVID-19 penetration. That includes recovery as well as death. The Death Toll coincides with knowing who is and who is not infected.
How is testing and a death toll not related? In your professional opinion, of course...

Meh.
The gap is already closing. It’s just a function of them being such a larger state. If spread starts around the same time in both states and its exponentially growing at the same rate, the state with the lower population is going to have a higher per capita for a while.

Hospitalization and ventilators taken are the only relevant statistics to follow as we go through the next couple of weeks.

This thread is about DEATHS PER CAPITA.
Which literally deals with only two data points.
1. Deaths due to the Wuhan virus.
2. Population

None of that would have an impact on DEATHS PER CAPITA, unless you believe that the testing is so inadequate in NYC that the deaths are significantly higher, thus making the deaths per capita equal.
You are arguing points that have nothing to do with this thread or the stats within.

No shite, Trapper John, MD. Just forget it. God help your patients.

You bring up the merit of testing asymptomatic carriers in regards to a statistic that isn’t impacted by that at all.

This is death per capita, not case fatality rate.
How many of these "dead" people are really dead though. Its a bullshite metric, I say.

Also New Orleans spread could have been much farther along than NYC when each were caught.
The more we test the more it seems Nola was practicing herd immunity for a few weeks before we went to quarantine

Sao still doesn't get your stance. You know that asymptomatic carriers can still pass it on. Of anyone, you should be sounding a trumpet to be safe but instead you're downplaying it all even still here in April. Why?

This after someone else mentioned testing for LOUISIANA. Seriously, this of all things is a brain buster to you, an MD?

quote:In regards to the OP’s article about deaths per capita, a concept that, no matter what state is involved, is not affected by the number of asymptomatic carriers or non-fatal cases.
This after someone else mentioned testing for LOUISIANA.
Knowing how many asymptomatic or non-fatal cases are out there will not decrease this particular stat.
In this situation, unlike what we should be doing, this stat only requires testing the most sick and fatal cases.
This isn’t a political opinion or downplaying of anything.
It is a little argument about statistical findings and what variables are actually needed.
In all honesty, this stat makes the entire situation seem dire.
Hell, Scruffy is taking the side here of stating that there is no stat that could sugarcoat or downplay this info from NOLA.
It is bad news period.

Because in this calculation it’s deaths/total
Population.
Population.

What the hell did people think was going to happen? Louisiana is at the bottom of the list when it comes to health in this country. I love Louisiana and I love living here but at the end of the day we all know what type of lifestyles a lot of people living in this state go about on a daily basis.

I tried and couldn’t get tested. Wasn’t old enough to worry bout
I love how every thread has that one guy who refutes statistics with claims that aren’t even related to what the statistic is saying.

I’d go out on a limb and say that New Orleans MSA is the unhealthiest metro area in the country with a population greater than 1M.
There that many people there?
