compared to the much higher percentage of people who's lives were better after they started taking these meds? People don't commit suicide because of these pills, it's because of the mental problem they already had. Different people have different chemical balances in their head which can sometimes be more genetics than their way of life or their approach on life. Which is why you see some people who are depressed when nothing wrong is going on. Their brains just don't balance the serotonin like most people.

Read some books on this shite and stop posting your false opinions.

Lexapro works like a champ for me. Only downside is for the wife. The only way I can bust a nut now is by furious BJ.

Sorry sweetie...

No, you're not merely a pussy. You're a big, blubbering vagina.

DO NOT stop Lexipro cold turkey...it can send you into a severe tailspin in a day or two. Trust me. It took me one year to wean off that stuff.

You shouldn't quit any antidepressant cold turkey. It is SO important to be weaned off correctly. Trust me.

Taking those pills (Lexapro) did nothing for my anxiety/depression. It may have treated the symptoms but did nothing for the root of it.

Leading a healthy, fit and truthful lifestyle is what changed my life. It was amazing how much better my life got once I started facing the facts and working out/eating better.

ETA: Not saying they are not good for some people.

To form a strong opinion of a topic, you must first educate yourself in all facets to spew damning comments. I'm sorry that you know someone that you suspect committed suicide due to SSRI use. I can tell you that depression is a real illness, no matter the iteology (genetics, head injury, drug abuse, etc). The OLD school adage of quit being a pussy, work out, eat better and feel better, rub some dirt on it panty-waste doesn't work....all of those things mentioned plus others not (religion, etc) can minimize and/or manage it for some people, but for others, not so much....there are many factors why SSRI's are not effective, but one of the main reasons is not understanding the pathophysiology of the disease and how the meds work....in today medical world where you turn patients through the door in 15min for billing, coupled with the meds handed out....the education is not there, so you end up with bad experiences and perceptions of what causes negative outcomes. The leading reason of most failures is non compliance in taking the med as designed....SSRI's take 2-3 weeks to get to therapeutic levels...they are not instant miracles but they help in most cases....require you to really take stock of how you feel....but you should never place a tag on someone, no matter the cause, as being able to help it or being lazy....that's short sighted. It's a real disease that affects millions every day....all drugs have side effects....are the side affects worse than sleeping your life away? Or worse? It's ok to have an opinion, just be educated about it before you label someone....

It usually takes a couple of weeks for the meds to get into your system and start working. If you didn't have any dizzy spells when you didn't take it, it probably hadn't fully gotten into your system. I had good experiences with lexapro for about two years, but it stopped working. I'm currently taking Cymbalta, but I've also taken Celexa and Paxil. Your body will determine which meds work and which ones don't. It's common to be a little irritable even you start a new med. some people have weird dreams and an upset stomach too. Whatever you do, don't stop cold turkey. It will mess you up big time. I suggest taking it for at least a month and if the side effects are too much, go see your doctor about changing your script.

My advice: don't ever do any antidepressant. Once you start, it's nearly impossible to get off of. I take one only because if I stop, after a few days I feel disoriented and like bees are buzzing in my head, and I am extremely irritable. It has done absolutely zero to help with depression, and I've tried them all at various dosages.

Lexapro takes a while to work and build up in your system. You're feeling good because of the placebo effect. Be careful, getting off that medication will frick you up.

I agree with this. I went through rough patch with family illness and juggling stressful business issues all took a toll. Six months of Lexapro reset my mind, allowed me to get back to reasonable sleep patterns. Doc weaned me off it after I reached stability. It was a homerun.

I've tried pretty much every SSRI on the market, and I didn't get much difference between Lexapro and Celexa.

The effectiveness of these kind of medications is 100% dependent on your body chemistry.

Any doctor will tell you the same.

You need to take the medicine for about a month before you will realize the full effects. It has to build in your system.

As others have said, do NOT stop these kinds of medications cold turkey. You have to ween yourself off.

If not, you will have the symptoms you mentioned, or worse.

If I miss my medicine for more than a day, my nervous system goes haywire.

I have no idea why people are down voting those who are telling you to get off of it. I was on Lexapro and the best decision I ever made was quitting that shite. You don't need a pill to tell you you're happy. Think about it for a moment, it's an "anti-depressant", why is taking a pill making you happy? If you're in debt, does it pay off your debt? If your girl leaves you, does it suddenly make her want to be back together? Like others have said, take control of your mind and face whatever it is bothering you.

Keep taking them, of course, but if things don't improve within a few months, consider other types of anti-depressants such as SNRIs. Not every form of depression is purely serotonin-related.

Because anyone who says otherwise doesn't know what they're talking about. See yourself.

It's an actual chemical imbalance in your brain that causes the issues.

I lived for 20 years without medication, and since I've got on, I haven't experienced hardly any of the horrible anxiety/depression problems I had.

Are there some people who are misdiagnosed? Sure. That's the case with any medication. But to wholesale-ly say that the drugs don't work or no one should take them is obtuse.

Don't know what I'm talking about? I was on the shite for years. It wasn't until I weened myself off of it that I felt so much better. Now, you are right that everyone is different but for me, it just made me miserable.
