I've taken it all. It's all horseshite. Nothing is going to make you feel better about a shite sandwich at the end of the day.

True change comes from within. If you're not happy about something, find a way to fix it.

If I'd have taken this approach earlier, my 20s would have been a lot better.

I'm honestly happy for you that you found a better way before your life was ruined permanently. Good luck to you!

You're not sorry so cut that bullshite

The brain is an organ. Some people have defective hearts, some have defective brains. Just because you don't experience depression doesn't mean others don't. It drives people to destroy relationships and commit suicide. How could you believe that's not a real problem?

Come on, don't bring this nonsense in here. You have no idea what you're talking about.

I definitely think it's a problem. I simply said I don't consider it a mental illness. Maybe you're too slow to have caught that in my post that you replied to. That's you're problem though. Not mine.

Get your hormones checked before you start antidepressants.

Estrogen
Testosterone (free and total)
Vitamin D
Tsh
Fsh
DHEA

Good place to start. Make sure it's not a thyroid problem or hormones before you start eating pills

First off, yes, taking it a few days and then stopping can do exactly what you mentioned. Your body was getting accustomed to be "told" what chemicals to make and in what dose to make them by the medicine and then you shut off the voice all of a sudden. Without that voice to tell it what to do, your body was doing nothing (in regard to producing the chemicals related to your depression). So it takes a few days for your body to remember how to do things on its own without being given directions by the medicine. During that time it basically DOESNT do those things, or does them in low amounts, causing you to be even more depressed and reclusive. I would start back on the meds.

Second, prepare for short term side effects that you are going to think, "shite I cant do this from now on". Things like headache, no sleep, and I'm totally not making this up, excessive yawning. lol They usually dont last more than a week or so.

Lastly, prepare to have to try a few different meds to find the right one for you. They started me on zoloft and after fricking for 4 solid hours without getting a nut, I said piss on that. So then they changed me to lexapro and I had the same problem. Finally I settled into welbutrin and it has made me into the non-frick giving motherfricker I always wished I was and without the shitty sexual side effects. It actually the opposite effect for a little while after I started it. I was a 2 pump chump there for about 2-3 weeks before things settled back into their normal way of things.

Hope this helps.

You realize people start taking those meds because they suffer from an actual medical condition that greatly affects their quality of life, right? What is more ruin-some: taking a pill every day or losing your life to depression? Hopefully dumb people don't read your posts and construe it as reliable information.

Oh, great, you're one of these assholes.

To the OP: Please listen to your doctors. They are the experts on this stuff. Take the medicine as directed for at least 6 weeks and if you aren't experiencing a change for the better, consult your doc again and work with him/her on a new solution.

Research has proven time and time again that meds + counseling (ie, cognitive behavioral therapy) is the best treatment for most forms of depression and anxiety. Don't listen to the whackjobs here who say it's all in your head or you need to man up. Good luck man. Depression is a bitch but you can fight it and win with the right approach.

You "don't consider it a mental illness". Well that settles it. Never mind all the people who research and treat depression and very much know it is a mental illness. A tigerdropping user says it's not. They just need to stop being pussies!

Judging by your 13 down votes (and I did not downvote), you're the buffoon here

I've known people who became worse off because of anti depressants, and one who committed suicide as a result.

I'm sure your anectdotal evidence is way, way better than the randomized controlled trials and metanalyses that doctors have been doing for the past 50 years

You know why they committed suicide? Because they were depressed.

Then you'd be wrong. It's caused by your brain (an organ in your body) not producing the correct amount of chemicals to regulate your mood. When your liver doesnt perform up to standards they call it liver disease. When your heart doesnt perform up to standards they call it heart disease. When your brain doesnt perform up to standards idiots like you call them pussies.

I honestly hope something happens to make you suffer like I, and many people I know, have suffered when battling depression and other mental illnesses.

As I said, I'm pretty much a non-frick giving motherfricker now, but the exception to that is shite like this.
