Doctor prescribed Lexapro a couple of weeks ago for depression and anxiety. I took it for a few days, then went on a short vacation and forgot about it.
I haven't taken it since I've been back (about a week now), but my entire mindset and mood have changed. I don't want to be around anyone. I only want to go home, lay in my bed, and watch TV. I don't want to talk on the phone, eat dinner with friends or family, or anything. I do have some "up" moments where I am happy but for the most part, I am very easily annoyed and just don't want to be bothered.
I'm normally not like this. I have always been a bit of a loner, but not to this extreme.
Could taking Lexapro for a few days and then stopping have led to this? Or is this a side effect of Lexapro? I will start taking it tonight again and make it a point to take it every day if the stopping is what caused this. But if this is how people on this drug act then I don't want to be on it.
I have zero interest in anything right now. No dangerous thoughts at all..just feel like I could lock myself in a room and lay down for a month with no human interaction and be just fine.

You need to take your medicine everyday. It takes a few weeks for your body to adjust to the medication. If you still feel like this after a month or so talk to your doctor about changing medications. Depression pills are not happy pills, your mood doesn't change the instant you take them.

No. Your depression led to that. Get back on the Lexapro and give it time to work.

My advice: don't ever do any antidepressant. Once you start, it's nearly impossible to get off of. I take one only because if I stop, after a few days I feel disoriented and like bees are buzzing in my head, and I am extremely irritable. It has done absolutely zero to help with depression, and I've tried them all at various dosages.

Ignore the idiot above who stops drugs cold turkey and doesn't know how to taper off.

Uninformed. Taking the meds and abruptly stopping could EASILY be the reason behind his new mindset.

OP, take the meds everyday. Nothing insane is going to happen. They're either going to ease your mind, or not do much at all, with side effects like headaches, nausea.

Life happens. Don't be a pussy. At most, go to counseling and learn to deal with your problems like an adult. Those pills are a trap that many people have been caught in and had their lives ruined.

What is more likely: withdrawal symptoms several weeks after taking a couple days worth of a drug, or more severe symptoms of the actual disease the drug was prescribed (but not taken) for?

Trust me as awful as I've felt the last few days I'm definitely not skipping it anymore. I'll be sure to follow up with my doctor if I don't see a difference in a month.

Thanks to everyone for the advice and help. I've been through tough stuff before and pulled through without medication. The thing that I don't understand is there is nothing particularly tough going on at the moment.

Lexapro takes a while to work and build up in your system. You're feeling good because of the placebo effect. Be careful, getting off that medication will frick you up.

People like you are the reason mental illnesses are still looked down upon.

getting off lexapro sucks! stay off if you are already off and don't need it. but if you are depressed, get back on it. But the withdrawl for lexapro is the worst.

Stop taking it now. Do everything in your power to avoid taking this medication. Take very very very very slow if you must. These drugs are highly questionable. When you try to stop taking them, it's hard to stop. Best to not get mixed up in the first place.

Doesn't have to be. Are you exercising? Eating right? Getting enough sun?

Just because you're not having a stressful life event, doesn't mean everything is fine.

Exercise exercise exercise.

Don't let these pharmaceutical companies stick this shite down your throat.

It's not worth the money.

Sorry but I don't consider depression a true mental illness. To me, it's more of an emotional weakness. I understand not everyone deals with problems the same way, but seeing a counselor will help you more than eating pills.

Drinking or smoking weed or other shite with it will not only negate the desired effects but exacerbate already-present negativity. I say this because a lot of people prescribed depression/anxiety meds have their condition in the first place because of abuse issues. Nearly all people who fall in this category are depressed because of chemical imbalances caused by addiction, so sprinkling Lexapro on top of a cocktail of illicit substances makes for an even shittier headspace.

Years ago I went on anxiety depression pills (lexapro). I'm pretty sure there's some placebo effect with them.

I stopped taking them years ago (all meds). Nothing has changed. I just decided I was tired of being depressed.

The last thing the psychologist told me before I quit going was that I've been so low for so long (depressed) I don't know what happiness is anymore.

Happiness is a set of circumstances that produce an emotion of satisfaction and being content. No pill is going to create that.
