Lets discuss the fitbit band, and what it is supposed to do.

So the office eating thread got me to thinking. I work with several women who are big ladies and eat all the time. They are constantly discussing calories and dieting, but eat all the time. This brings me to the fitbit, one of these ladies was in the another coworkers office last week and as we were all discussing some stuff her fitbit band starts to beep. She doesnt even look at it and says "well its 2:30". I asked her how in the world she knew it was 2:30? She said "because i have my band set up to beep at 9:30, 11:30, 2:30, and 5:00" to remind me its snack time..i just laughed and said my stomach tells me when its time to eat... Now i may be wrong, but doesnt this defeat the whole purpose of having a fitbit?

<<< snacking as I await this answer.
You did mention what the wearers of Fitbit have in common.

Not if she's on some specific diet. Which if she is, it doesn't sound like it's working.
I have days when if I only ate when I was hungry, I'd lose weight. And days when I could eat a horse and still be ravenous. Everyone is different.

Sounds like she is buying into the whole "eat six times a day to speed up you metabolism" nonsense.

She is probably trying to eat several small meals throughout the day but I doubt it is doing anything. I have one and I think it is kind of fun tracking your activity. I use it for the steps and calorie tracking.

yeah, if she wasnt over 250lbs and snacking on junk food i may too.. but on top of it i get to hear about the 750steps she took before lunch

That sounds incredibly low.
eta: The steps I mean.

Why don't you ask her why she is snacking every two hours on junk food?

lol my point exactly! I go the gym during lunch every day and work out... i actually had one of these women tell me yesterday when i walked back in the office and saw me in my gym clothes "i ran 2 miles in my head during lunch today" I was like "yeah thats great"

questioning a fat woman about her eating habits. no way that could go wrong

People are totally clueless when it comes to diet and nutrition. She probably heard that you can lose weight by eating six times a day and thinks she can eat whatever.

this is what i think, that she heard eating more through the day helps lose weight and didnt bother researching anymore

We are still suffering from all the nutrition misinformation of the 80's and 90's.

Not really sure it's nonsense. I know a doctor who has eaten this way for more than a decade. Multiple meals per day between 200-400 calories each. She says it is healthier than eating three larger meals per day.

agreed - go eat 40 grams of lean protein with veggies six times a day and come back when leaner.

What makes you think a doctor knows anymore about this subject than the average person?

to be fair, every bro in the world lived by this just 10 years ago
I'll bet you did as well, even if you won't admit it
I imagine some middle aged woman doesn't keep up with the newest broscience all that well

They don't. In many cases they know less than the average person.

Yea, but the six times a day has nothing to do with why you would be leaner.
