There's literally ZERO reason not to legalize & tax it. Anything else is fueled by stupidity.

I wish Georgia would do this.

However keep in mind that no one will take in as much as Colorado Oregon bc I guarantee their sales are higher bc you can't get it anywhere else.

In Louisiana:

Potential revenues from marijuana sales < Current revenues from locking up marijuana offenders

This damn state can't even get with the times to build the correct infrastructure to handle its population how they'd be progressive enough to legalize weed would be beyond me.

True, but if LA did it in the very near future, we'd have a grip on the south for years.

That it would fix the economy. How many lawyers, police, judges, prison guards, drug testing employees etc would be laid off if weed was legal? How many of those wouldn't be able to find new jobs and instead of being taxpayers would become leeches? How many would default on their student loans when you know LA has WAY too many new lawyers as it is? How many people would not be on probation and not paying monthly fines for drug testing if it was legal? How much less booze would be sold if weed was legal? What about prescription meds and all of the jobs that come along with them like docs and pharmacists? All it does is shift money around but most people aren't smart enough to grasp that.

Now let's talk about how many people in the ghettos of LA supplement, or make their entire income from selling weed. If you take away that income stream violent crime in nice neighborhoods will skyrocket. That might offset some of the issues I mentioned above but is violent crime worth it?

What are you basing that off of? Colorado and Oregon far exceeded expectations on taxed sales. My two cents LA needs to hurry up and legalize to get an upper leg on the sales, before its legal every where.

Criminal defense attorneys? Oh no whatever will we do?!?!?

police

Good.

judges

90% chance they land a job within a month that pays a lot more than they make on the bench.

prison guards

Good.

drug testing employees

How many people in this state are drug testing employees? Less than 1000? Who cares?

What happened in Colorado? No ghettos there?

Yep, they are using the same model as Colorado, retail in former medical dispensaries only to start so they can vet new retailers.

Legal weed wouldn't solve the budget problem but it would help. It's something that should be done for a number of reasons. The worthless politicians need to do this and some other common sense things before looking for tax hikes.

People would flock to Nola for it. It's an easy drive from anywhere in the south or Texas. Colorado is not quite as convenient.

That's good. We dicked it up here in Washington state by separating retail and medical.
