The demographics in Colorado are WAY different than Louisiana. As far as it being a good thing overall for society in La I probably agree, it just depends how much more crime would come to good neighborhoods when you take away one of the only income streams from the hood, but it I doubt it would boost economy when you factor in everything. Anyone who acts like they know legal weed is some kind of panacea for the economy in certain states hasn't spent more than a few minutes thinking of the repercussions or just has a low IQ.

Exactly. I say lets outlaw broccoli, oranges, and tomatoes too. The more things outlawed, the better it is for lawyers judges and hood rats.

We've been legal since 2012 and we don't have cops and lawyers starving in the streets and the people in the hood still find a way to get by.

Ya that is in Washington, not Louisiana. Demographics and demand for certain jobs are a huge factor in what will make legal weed a positive VS a negative in any given state.

True. Anyone who thinks it's some kind of game changer either way is mistaken. I support legalization because I think it's the morally correct position.

How much do they tax dope?
I would like to know how much we can expect to gain in revenue.

Enforcement is a massive drain on our economy. We spend billions on enforcement of marijuana prohibition when we could rake in 10's/hundreds of millions in tax revenue.

Places like BR and NOLA wouldn't have to cut any police officers. There's already a shortage of those. They won't lose their jobs.

The "hood" will be just fine, probably a lot better off in fact. Less of them in jail. More of them able to find jobs as a result of not going to jail for marijuana possession, etc.

It would bring in tax revenue of 100 million at the absolute most, probably less than half.

Our budget shortfall is about 2 billion. It's far from being any kind of game changer.

I did the math based on Louisiana's percentage of the American illegal weed sales. La would have about $20 million per year in taxes from a legal weed industry.

Here is the math

Yeah, bullshite. Every "non violent" burglar/murderer/mugger in the newspaper also has marijuana on them pretty much

nice troll. Do you even read the newspaper?

I agree morally it is 100% correct that it should be legal but I doubt it would help economically in certain states and think in some cities and states it would do much more harm than good. I like the medical MJ system personally because anyone with half a brain and no record can get a card and smoke legally but it still allows the idiots to get arrested so it protects the good people while still punishing the idiots which doesn't upset the economy too much.

I've always at least partially agreed with you on pot.

It should absolutely without a doubt be legal for moral and constitutional reasons, but it isn't some incredible thing that will make everything better.

If you are in prison for weed 99% of the time it is because you made your living from it. What will these people do when they get out? Get legit jobs when our real unemployment rate is near 20% and they have a record? Nope! It's welfare at best but the most likely scenario is they will resort to worse crime when they get sick of minimum wage.

Now add the money spent on enforcement, which is a LOT bigger than any tax revenue we would see.

I love pot as much as anyone, in the last 20 years have smoked more days than I haven't by far, have sold well over 100 pounds in my life but I am a realist.

Weed resorts in Shreveport and LC. Let the Texans and their vices save our economy again.
