No I haven't. I've never been to germany. But the Autobahn system is maybe 15% the size of our interstate system. Also it's much more expensive to maintain. Also most of the Autobahn has a speed limit that is strictly enforced.

Most of all do we want to suck the dick of a system created by the Nazis? Nawwww

The only problem with the US highway system is the people that drive on it.

The Nazis did a lot of things right.
The roads are just one of them.

Their only mistake was the little genocide thing. That left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouth.

Well, and not to mention the fact that the roads in Europe were built to accommodate what towns were already there.

In this dumbass country, we built the roads and then developed the towns around that, which is a huge waste of space.

We need more signs on the roadways that address this and less that tell you to buckle up.

Yeah but if you haul arse and save 30 minutes off of your trip, that's 30 min worth of driving that you saved in gas...?????... Profit

Wrong!

Driving More Efficiently

While each vehicle reaches its optimal fuel economy at a different speed (or range of speeds), gas mileage usually decreases rapidly at speeds above 50 mph.

You can assume that each 5 mph you drive over 50 mph is like paying an additional $0.15 per gallon for gas.

P.S. This may explain why old people drive so slowly.....

Driving to Pensacola last weekend, I keep griping about people not using cruise control and my wife said they were on "snooze control"

Never heard that gem before but it stuck with us for the rest of the trip.

I like the terms left lane bandits and left lane loungers too.

Thought I'd share, I'll probably forever refer to them as being on snooze control.

"Well all the board is clear... If you want to jump on our board here's how you do it.. Call us at 260 187. Or long distance 504 260 187. We have a couple minutes here, no long distance."

The problem is that people think the left lane is the fast lane instead of the passing lane.

Yup. I've gotten into arguments with family members over this.

"I'm doing 75 mph in a 70 zone, I'm going fast enough, they can go around"

People think they have some kind of ownership over the asphalt or something

I had the vast pleasure of being behind someone in the left lane. It was at night on an interstate in ACC territory. I blinked my headlights for them to pull over. They ignored me twice. I settled in behind traffic in the right lane.

Lo! and behold! A state trooper pulls up where I was, and HE blinks his lights.
Nada from the driver ahead. BOOM. Trooper turns on the lights and pulls him over for a ticket for not granting the road. Amen. Amen.

Germans are extremely organized and structured. For this reason they understand how lane discipline makes highway travel more efficient.

And yea, they're generally smarter than the average person driving on I-10 between Houston and Pensacola.

I worked in Germany a few years with our engineering department and it was a real pleasure. Their organization and attention to detail is really unrivaled. They definitely know how to unwind after a week of work too.
