If you are in the left lane and there are twenty cars stacked behind you. You are a huge a-hole.

Since when is following the rules of the road considered owning the road? I can't believe that no one has called you out for being a dickhead.

Note: this wasn't your only dickheadish post in this thread.

So driving 90mph (which IS an arrestable offense) is following the rules of the road? You've obviously missed where I said that I always use the correct lane. I also drive with the safety of others in mind, which many of the posters in here obviously do not.

Dickheadish? Have you read the OT lately? What I said wasn't any worse than 90% of the posts in this thread. But I guess since my opinion differs from yours, that makes me an a-hole.

All it comes down to is Manners

1. Blocking left lane at any speed = bad manners/selfish character
2. Speeding up and tailgating someone who is blocking left lane = bad manners/selfish character.

Both of the above are dangerous and should be ticketed when observed.

1. Using left lane as it is intended = good manners.
2. Being courteous of someone who is using the left lane to pass someone, even if they may not be passing as quickly as I wish they would = good manners.

Both of these behaviors help myself and those around me have a better chance of avoiding death on the road.

Also have not seen this mentioned. When on a 2 lane curvy country road and multiple cars are behind you. Even if you are going the speed limit, pull over and let them pass and then continue on your way. Pulling off to a side road and doing this may "waste" 1 minute of your time.

^^^ All of this.
People need to realize that this world is not all about them. I'm a very friendly & defensive driver. Road rage is extremely childish IMO. To put someone elses life at risk to get to your destination 9.3 seconds earlier is quite pathetic.

No what makes you an a-hole is trying to regulate other people's speed by blocking the passing lane. If that's what you do.

God this rule comes up so often on the Ot. Full of drivers who often deal with baton Rouge area i10 traffic.

If both lanes are full of cars and no ones going any faster than anyone else... Stay the frick in your lane and drive in a straight line. Weaving gets you nowhere faster and makes traffic worse and more dangerous for everyone

To the people who camp out in the left lane:
It's a passing lane, not a pacing lane!

Depending on the state, it is a very arrest-able offense.

What is worse is 18 wheelers who camp out in the left lane blocking traffic. Top it off with another 18 wheeler in the right lane going the same speed essentially creating a wall down the road.

Doing 90-100mph when everyone else is doing 70 is dangerous, yes. But that's more because slow drivers tend to not use their mirrors and have no idea what's going on around them. It isn't safe to "blow past" someone who may not realize you are there.

When you're doing 100mph it is much safer to pass someone doing 90mph than it is to pass someone going 65mph. Relative differences in speed matter, absolute speed not so much unless driving conditions are less than perfect.

Yeah, that's not an accurate representation of the U.S. Vs Europe land size. We're 3.5 million miles², they're 3.9. Close, but Europe is bigger. They also have 742 million vs our 318 million.

I won't tailgate too hard but I usually turn my lights on and I'll inch up on people. If they simply won't move I have a short fuse when driving so sometimes I let that get the best of me. On ramps become my passing lane.

My natural response to the left lane blockers is similar to others here. I have to resist my natural urge to encourage them to get over.

Found it interesting the guy in your link apologizes and says he did not know it was an issue. I think most of us want to assume the person blocking us is doing it on purpose just because they want to, etc.

Probably need to assume the person does not know but are actually really polite and likeable people.

Got behind a lane hog on my from BR to Slidell. I laid on the Air Horn (sounds like a frigging train lol) and woke his arse up I guess. Surprised he didn't wipe out. He found the accelerator and got out of the way and the long line of cars finally got going.

The autobahn is a living testament to what our road could look like if everyone followed this rule. The German highway system boasts lower accident and fatality rates even though it has higher (and sometimes nonexistent) speed limits. It isn’t just a matter of courtesy to the people driving behind you — it’s a real question of safety.

Can't happen in LA. People here don't drive any further than the hood of their car. They see traffic building up ahead and proceed to roll 60+ until the traffic is right on top of them then brake.
