Ironically you have "runner's knee". Get a jumper's knee strap like in the picture the earlier post by 12pence.
Also, layoff for a week/decrease your mileage and pop a few Aleves for 3 or 4 days. Increase your mileage only 10% per week max.

These work great. I've had pain below my knee caps since I was a kid. Outgrew it in the right let but my left leg still bothers me. These make a huge difference.

This is what doctors said when I was a kid. It just never went away in my left knee.

Thanks 12Pence. I will try that.
I just started training for a half marathon. I had been running without problems and this just started. I had run 120-160 miles per month with no problem for 4 months and now BAM!!!

Having problems with one of my knees. Sharp pain on the outside of my right knee. I quit running for a week and changed to new shoes, but it didn't help.
Guess I'll wait another week and try one of those knee support bands.

Total costs for hip and knee replacement surgery have grown at 10.2% annually since 2000, with about 70% of the growth driven by the amount of procedures, and 30% of the growth driven by the cost of each procedure.
Yet the hospitals are paying about half of what they were for the implants in 2000.

Sometime people are just running in the wrong shoes. I know there are some stores that will do foot assessments to size up you feet and what type of shoes will work best. Maybe that would be a good start if you an ardent runner.
