PTBob, I'm assuming that you're a pt. I've read that changing your footstrike actually can do more harm than damage. Thoughts?

(For the record, I was d/c from PT in February ... LOVED the guys that I worked with and was really much better than when I went in)

I've had the same problem in the past. I learned it's usually a result of overuse and/or weakness in the leg muscles causing undue pressure on the knee. The result can be tendonitis and inflammation of the underlying cartilage. If you google runner's knee, there are a bunch of articles recommending strengthening plans to help in the future.

People are naturally heel strikers or forefoot strikers.

In general (this is not a 100% rule), I will not try to change someones running mechanics based on the heel/forefoot striking criteria alone.

Typically use it as a last resort for someone with chronic issues b/c you are right, changing someones form drastically can and often times does lead to other injuries due to muscle imbalances and questionable form. You cannot master running form quickly similar to you can't master a new golf swing quickly without constant feedback.

Pussy.

Probably knee cancer or sandy vaginitis.
I took that jogging class at LSU a while back. I managed to frick up my leg one day into it, and thought I'd just push through the pain. Kept running the 3 miles every day until it got to the point where I couldn't walk after I was done work for the day (was cutting grass). After a week of not being able to walk after work, I went to the Dr. Turns out my leg was broken the entire time

I'd still try and push through an injury even after that happened because I'm not a pussy. At the point where you can't walk it off, go to the doctor
