This. Mine has about 3 hours each day, but she is getting home before noon

We're in EBR, so full day.

No kidding!

They are working the shite out of my 6th graders. They literally have zero time to unwind these days.

That is too much homework for a full day.

And people wonder why our schools are failing. Let's put our kids in school for 8 hours, then give them multiple hours of homework each night so they have no chance to relax, play sports, or in the case of high school students...work without being stressed out about getting homework done. What a great idea.

Teachers who assign multiple hours of homework are morons.

It sounds like she has trouble efficiently managing her time

Mine is in Kindergarten. Everyday she comes home with 1 book we have to read (Afterwards, I have to write a paragraph as to why we liked it), 2 math sheets, and 1 writing practice sheet.

That is a result of lazy parents. Not you, but generally.
Kids walk into kindergarten and don't know their alphabet, how to count to 100, days of the week, etc.
the homework for kindergarten is a way of forcing parents to help their kids learn.

She's tricking you into believing she works so hard. That way you'll let her go out with her friends more often. Her friends who happen to be boys. And black.

There is an emphasis placed on academic level. You have to take a test to advance in high school on the college track. If you don't score high enough you go to a type of trade school.
The US could take a page from this. Focus on what students do best or want to do rather than forcing students who can't or don't want to be on a college track.

Been saying this for years. Germany's school system is incredible. If you're very smart, you continue to move on to college and pursue technically advanced degrees. If you're not (and why the frick can't we acknowledge that not everyone is smart just like not everyone can play college sports), then you start learning your skilled trade in high school.

Germany's incredible manufacturing is a direct result of how skilled their workforce is. Ours sucks ballsack but they all have cute Art History degrees so yea, they're "smart".

Is she taking breaks to eat, use the restroom, or just chat with the family? If so, put a stop to all that. It just cuts into their focus and then they have to regain it again, wasting time, on top of the time she wasted during the break.

Have you considered amphetamines to help improve her efficiency? She should start to pull away from the pack in academics, and you may even have a varsity athlete on your hands down the line.

Its all chemistry.

And yet America still ranks poorly for quality of education. It's time for year round school.

And if you have 4 projects due and you are JUST doing them this week you haven't "actually been working on them".

Homework is all about figuring out which teachers don't actually check daily, which homework doesn't affect your grade much, and which homework is easy enough to copy from somebody else the next day. This is how winners succeed.

And this is why TOPS was under heat in this state. You are paying for those students' college tuition...

That's not developmentally appropriate, I'd guess

Agreed.

And I've never heard of 4 "projects" all being due on the same day. Not in middle school, high school, college, never ever have I heard of that.

Then home school the brat.

#1 reason I'd never be a teacher: whiny-arse parents.

I am ready to send a note to school with my child explaining to the teacher that I successfully completed 4th grade.
