Yea, you being an a-hole struck a nerve. My family didn't wait for any handouts, just like a lot of others. The wording of your post is completely unnecessary.

Who gives a shite about the media. People who lived through it know it was most of the Gulf Coast.

You're perfectly free to start a Rita thread if you feel so inclined.

Exactly.

And Queen Oprah had to come fly in and meet with Nagin, and start the racial shite.
Bitch.

This. No one I know waited for handouts and we all helped each other rebuild the community when we could. Gutting houses, planting trees, sharing contractors and sub contractors. We knew the gov wasn't going to help. Why wait for them?

People seem to forget what Rita did to the other side of the state shortly after Katrina...The cities and towns affected were not New Orleans and the people there began to clean and fix up their own property and not wait for any handouts.... But no one talks about right? I personally had to rescue people by boat cause they were trapped in their homes.. It was not a pretty sight... Homes lost due to complete flooding just like New Orleans...but lot less media attention

I'm sorry you're too dumb to recognize the differences in impact from Katrina and Rita

I can see how a lot of people would be.

Where I grew up got wiped out, all the things I know from a kid are gone. I wasn't effected at all as I live in Tennessee, but a lot of my family was hit bad by the storm. It hits me emotionally just go down there and see the change, I couldn't imagine living in it day to day and actually being effected by the storm.

Bruh, his uncle's camp in Cameron got wiped out.

That's completely analogous to a two state region of 1.5 million people or so being all completely displaced for about 4 months.

I always laugh at the racial thing people try to claim in Katrina. The city was what 70% black when the storm hit? The deep south, which was hammered by the storm, has more black people than anywhere else.

You may be right..not all affected waited for hand outs... but the point to this is that Rita had the same devestation but to more of rural communitites and Katrina was what all the talk was about... Lets face it..we have all suffered huge loss from hurricanes if you have lived in south louisiana long enough... i wouldnt say traumatized... its part of life living on the gulf coast

I didn't go through Katrina in New Orleans but did photograph the city and parish in the immediate days afterwards. I'm reminded of it everytime I see that film.

What a urban area versus a rural area? Yeah the cost of rebuilding would be greater of course, but the personal impact the same...

My family really wasn't affected by it, other than life in general changed for about 6 months at least if you lived in or around NOLA. My brother was out of school for almost a month. My dad worked for about 4 weeks straight.

My sister in law's family was though. They closed on their new house two days before the storm. They had just left Chalmette. Friends and family members lost everything. The company her dad worked for was destroyed. They get very emotional about it, and understandably so.

Unfortunately, no it didn't. Not even close.

It is funny how different peoples mids work. Some people have no trouble seeing horrific things and are able to forget them immediately while others suffer a lifetime of PTSD. I read an article about Special Forces soldiers and how a scientific study showed that many of them that were able to go through tremendous catastrophes in war and suffer no consequences were abused as children. The DOD seemed to think that child abuse resulted in less PTSD in these soldiers. I don't know why I felt compelled to add that but it was interesting.

New Orleans is my home. I'm never leaving.

It's pretty awesome to watch the city come back. Neighborhoods are growing everywhere, we have a large influx of "young professionals", mid city is poised to be a great place over the next decade, it's great to be a part of the rebuilding process.

One thing Katrina did was cure me of ever wanting a travel trailer. I lived in FEMA camper in my front yard for 8 months, with a pregnant wife, and frick THAT shite.

We all know that GW sent that storm to Nola because he hates black people. That's what Kanye the Great told me.
