There are lots of old people on the planet.

Were they all driving members of the most popular band on the planet? You're being deliberately obtuse.

The Beatles are not anywhere near the most popular band for the age group I'm talking about.

The song Help was in one of our English books for sure.

That's not what I said. The Beatles are generally considered the most popular and influential band in rock history. You make it sound like McCartney was some one hit wonder in the 60's.

You and I are talking about different things then. I never said they aren't popular overall.

No I don't. I said most 25 year old likely don't know who he is. And I still stand by that because the Beatles haven't been in the limelight in a very long time.

That'd be a real safe bet.

Modern history and music classes

I don't believe I can point out a solo song he has done, and besides "Ebony and Ivory" with MJ, only know him musically from the Beatles, but he has been in the media for years, from being one of the premier faces of British celebrity, the weird arse marriage and divorce, and the abundance of pop culture reference.

If you don't know who Paul is, you legitimately have never turned on a tv, radio, or fired up the internet. He isn't everywhere, but he is a common figure in the realm of music.

Kanye is much more popular than Paul McCartney is today and ever was. Not really a debate.

Look at some of the attendance numbers for Kanye's last tour vs McCartney's last tour.

I know you mentioned earlier sarcastically that you must have missed the music history class in school. Honestly you must have. I had a dedicated music history class in high school, college, and I even touched on some in elementary school. Pop cultural movements are also taught in school as part of history and also just by being aware of the entertainment that you consume. Granted I do probably pay more attention to these things than others, but I still consider this something of a sin of ignorance given the historical significance, although less than the other historical examples that I gave.

That said, I do agree that the Beatles are fading from common thought. I just think your ages are shifted a bit up.

He played Olympic opening ceremony - probably the biggest gig on the planet.

He headlined Coachella and Bonaroo - two of the biggest music festivals on the planet (both of which are targeted toward a younger demographic)

It's okay if you haven't been paying attention, but to say he hasn't done anything relevant for the last ten years is just ignorant.

The sheer population has a lot to do with it. Also how world wide things are now.

You think half the population of China and India could pick Paul out of a line-up in the 60s?

I couldn't name who has done that for either of the most recent Olympics, I'd wager i'm not the only one.

But not all young people go to those events.

It's not a troll. You just can't wrap your head around the fact that maybe not everyone likes the same things and knows the same info you do.
