That's either one hell of an attempt at a troll job or the dumbest thing I have read on the OT, ever.

1960's population was probably 3 billion.... 2015 around 7 billion, with the most populated places like China and India being in tune when they weren't in the 60's

How could you even possibly debate who was more popular? Sounds like the smart money would be on Kanye every single time

The whole notion that you can't name the last 5 Super Bowl performers is silly

Not really.

ust because you don't know them off the top of your head doesn't mean you are not familiar with them as artists.

I also am older than the people I'm talking about.

quote:

I can't tell you who the last five Super Bowl champs were, but if you told me I bet I could tell you who their quarterback was.

That's basically completely irrelevant to what we're discussing, but cool I guess.

I'd be willing to bet Paul McCartney has a higher Q score than Kanye.

My classic rock stations don't play the Beatles, maybe I'm listening to the wrong ones.

Saint, you don't know what you're talking about

You have absolutely no clue how popular the Beatles were

Paul was a music superstar as a solo act. But the Beatles went beyond even superstardom. They were a phenomenon bordering on myth even while they were together.

Watch some documentaries. Read some books. Learn about history.

What exposure would most 25 and under people have to the Beatles?

Like I already said, 25 is old enough for a decent proportion to have parents who grew up listening to the beatles. 20 might be where this cutoff really becomes apparent as the generations start to grow apart.

There should have been references to the beatles in some history classes during education. A lot of people don't really remember that shite anyway though. There have already been references to pop culture events that McCartney has played in recent years.

In that right at 25 age group, not knowing the Beatles and at least the main two members is approaching simple willful ignorance, although some people are simply just not into music at all. Getting younger than that I could see starting to get the disconnect, although there is a question of level of education unless the person simply does not care for music at all.

I mean compare Paul McCartney and the Beatles to other icons in the field. Should the majority of people in western culture have forgotten about Mozart, Beethoven, Louis Armstrong, or Elvis Pressley as well?

Anyway this has gotten quite involved for an OP that was about likely trolling tweeters.

The fact that a popular game on a popular console centers entirely around the Beatles highlights their ongoing relevance and popularity. stop playing dense.

1. These tweets that they refetenced in the article seem like jokes to me, but regardless I wouldn't expect a lot of the younger generation to be knowledgeable of Paul McCartney.

2. People who are saying Kayne isn't talented are more ignorant than anyone who doesn't know who Paul McCartney is.

I guess ZZ Top and AC/DC are more relevant and influential than the Beatles

Someone can have talent but not fans. Soh has talent, but I'm not a fan. Rudy Galindo has talent, but I'm not a fan.

it's not like there's any "new" classic rock coming out, the stations all pick from the same library and use a limited portion of that to suit their format, i.e. light rock, or a focus on one decade, etc., it's pretty bad where I live, I have to have about four stations programmed to hear just a few decent songs when I'm driving around town, it's all about selling ad time

Every single one of your arguments has been a deflection, strawman, or non sequitur. Why it's so hard to admit that McCartney is a popular figure, I don't know. Please show us on the doll where he touched you.

Not that I can recall. It's usually later stuff.

"The game did beat its chief competition —Activision’s “Guitar Hero 5” — by nearly a 2:1 margin in September."

"The less than stellar performance of “The Beatles: Rock Band” is tied, in part, to the ongoing woes of the music/dance genre. While September showed a 72 percent dollar sales increase over the 2008 numbers, the category as a whole is still down markedly year-over-year."
