Just sitting here and all I can think is wow, its really happening/happened.

He is at Ft. Jackson for BCT and the heading to Ft. Eustis for AIT. I am more worried tonight than I was the night I did the same thing over 30 years ago. Things were a lot different back then and basic was likely more difficult than now, but I sit here and worry about all kinds of things that could happen - things that never, ever crossed my mind back then.

If you are the praying type, all I ask is for those.

You'll have my prayers.

In that foreign, harsh place he is going to take comfort in the words he heard at your side. He'll come back having a better understanding why you said them.

Tell him not to take the green pill. It’s not for upper respiratory infections.

Absolutely. Went through the same thing, son to Lackland - USAF - about 10/11 years ago. All went well.

Thank him for me, please.

Relaxin' Jackson huh? Yeah, he'll be fine. :)

Good luck and good vibes to him, you, and your family.

He will have a blast. Love hearing of kids joining the military nowadays since most i know are soft pansies. I went to Fort Leonard Wood long ago. It’s good for him, and everyone should at least go through Basic IMO. Thanks for raising your child right.

I say this as someone who is very naive, but what exactly are you worried about? I'm genuinely curious.

Welcome to being a father who cares, and job well done. It's hard to let them go and be men, but let them we must.

It leaves a big void losing a kid to adulthood. It is a weird position to be in. On one hand you are excited for your child to start their next journey and make their way, but on the other you want to protect and hold them close.

Wish you both luck, and thank you for yours and your son's service.

It's always been weird to me how the Army doesn't have uniform boot camps. Ft Leonard Wood reception looks like a clownshow compared to Benning.

I went threw Ft Jackson and was never stationed stateside, so I can't compare.

The worst part of BCT was dealing with the females' bullshite. Everything else was a cakewalk.
