I'm sure that somewhere in the fine print of all the documents you signed that it states that you agree to give them clear title to your trade in vehicle as a condition of them paying you X amount of $$$ for it.

No Title = Trashy. I would not have dealt with you without a title in hand.

Op probably told salesperson he had no title just lein release. That's what I did and salesperson told finance guy so no surprises either way. I think I did sign a POA just applicable to getting the title.

The OP should know if he signed a PoA or not. Unless he just blindly signed the packet.

Nah I didn't. Pretty sure I had not and I just double checked.
I work 1 mile from the dealer. I think I will offer to swing buy and sign a POA so they can deal with it.

They may offer to charge you a fee as well.

If your car is brand-new, as in you are the first and only owner then I'd say congrats on buying one of the quickest depreciating assets readily available to the typical American consumer.
Hopefully you paid cash or only financed it for a short period of time
The last sentence confirms you are indeed a dumbass. Why fork over a chuck of cash on a depreciating asset when interest rates on new cars are near 0%?
Good job on being a dick and looking like a dumbass.

They will be able to get a title if you sign the POA. If you don't, they can still get the title, but it takes longer and it costs them more money. You had a contract with them and you should be an honorable person and take care of it.
They could've been difficult and not given you the new car. They trusted you and now you do this. I wouldn't want the bad karma, but it's on you bro.

I called the bank. They said that in Louisiana, the title has to come from the DMV, and that I can get it by going down there in person with the lien release letter.
This is incorrect. I have had 2 vehicles financed through my credit union in Baton Rouge, EagleFCU to be exact, and each time I made the last payment, they went into the back and came out with the title that they had all along. They gave me the option to mail it, but I didn't want to risk it getting lost by my crappy mailchick. Either you talked to a moron at your bank or they lost your title and don't want the hassle of getting a duplicate.

They never told me they would need me to get the title. They said they would take care of it, then changed their mind a week later.

So what....I hope you never make a mistake in your job and then need someone's help to make it right.

If this is a new car dealership then this is nothing new for them. When you signed your forms you had to sign a Louisiana Vehicle Application Form. The VEH has a duplicate title section that you will have to sign. They will have their title company do two transactions - a duplicate title transaction to get the new title and a purchase of the new car with the new title used as the trade in.
Louisiana has mostly electronic titles now so the lienholders do not have physical titles anymore. Once the lien is paid off they electronically release the title but it does not auto-generate and must be applied for now.

In any business transaction words don't mean crap. All that matters is what the two parties agreed to in writing.
All the salesman talk is to simply distract you from the only thing that matters (what's in the paperwork you signed).

sounds like someone traded in a stolen vehicle and trying to cover it up.

Posted on 12/2/14 at 8:54 pm to SG_Geaux
Everyone on the O-T walks out of the dealership with the title to their new car.

Bought my last car this way 10 years ago. Dealer handled it all.

I guess what I'm getting at is, why do you pay things off and not get the title in hand?

Why do I have to visit a sleazy dealership? Drop that shite off at my house.
