But it wasn't swept under the rug. It was reported to police. Everything I'm reading about this reads like the family did what any reasonable family would do, but somehow we're supposed to be outraged.

Didn't the article say it wasn't reported for a year? That doesn't seem reasonable

Hey TLC, The ignorant redneck/religious fundamentalist segment of the population is probably more statistically likely to be a source of incest molestation scandals that would be the more "normative" general population as a whole. Just something for your Public Relations Department to consider when finding new source material for reality TV

If they would have let him go to school or be out of the house he probably could have found others to diddle. Kids need play mates their own age outside of the home. how else are you going to play doctor?

It was reported a full year after the fact to a friend who was a cop and also happened to really like kiddie porn. The son was sent to work at another friend's remodeling business for a few months. No therapy, no punishment of any kind. Yeah, this should definitely be the gold standard for how to handle child molestation.

The way it reads to me is they found out about one incident and tried to handle it as a family. They then found out about another incident a year later and went to the church elders and a police officer friend of theirs.

ETA: In Touch Weekly found out about this through a freedom of information act request to the police department, so it's clear the cops were involved...

I keep seeing this being brought up. Do you have evidence they knew the friend was in to kiddie porn? All evidence points to them knowing he was a cop and a friend. Why aren't you pissed at that guy for not filing a report about it? How do you know they thought he wouldn't file a report? Does it seem unreasonable to you that someone would turn themselves in to a cop they know personally?

You don't think being sent away from your family is a punishment? The guy was a minor. It's not like he would have been doing hard time.

I'm not sure what the "gold standard" is for handling a child molesting other children. Our laws don't view them the same as adults so I'm not sure why I should either.

The cop they went to a year after finding out wasn't a detective. He was in charge of some sort of compliance to do with their used car business. There was no report, he gave Josh a "stern talking to". He's now in prison for child porn.

This came to the police's attention after someone wrote an email to Harpo productions over 3 years later warning them that the family wasn't who they seemed. Harpo contacted CPS in Arkansas and that got the ball rolling. I think the 3 year SOL had passed and they didn't believe they had a case to prosecute.

I think the person who wrote the email was the same person who posted about this back in 2007.

The guy clearly did something wrong. I just find it hypocritical to act like he was supposed to perfect and without flaw just because he was raised in a Christian home, and I also find it odd for people to act like they would have responded any differently than this family did. No, you wouldn't have. Hypocrite.

Way to paint an entire group with one brush. Ignorance is no better than hypocrisy.

Once again, I'm not sure why it would be viewed as abnormal for someone to go to a police officer they know. I highly doubt they knew the guy was into child porn though.

I thought I read the investigation started because a friend borrowed a book from the family and found a note that mentioned the abuses in the book. That person then called child services and the police were called. That investigation was in 2006 so that would not have been 3 years after the last incident they discuss in the articles.

He was shown preferential treatment by his family. And no corrective action outside the home was taken the first time to try to keep this from happening again. I don't care if they are Christian or not, that's wrong

Are we supposed to go to the government every time our children make a mistake?

It's really really odd to me that people think this way.

What if he had murdered someone? At 15 or 16 years old, he should have known what he was doing was wrong (just as murder would be), and if he didn't, action should have been taken.

not defending joshs actions in any way but people would be shocked if they knew how often stuff like this happens with minors.

It happens much more often then people think. Unfortunately
