Hammond has great restaurants and is a good place to raise a family. As for the public schools in Tangipahoa parish, I would avoid at all costs. Private school is the way to go.

And you are terribly misinformed if you think the academics at PHS currently come close to anything STA is offering. PHS was once a great school, Pat Morris, Matk Kolwe, and Brett Duncan ruined that.

Really? Because PHS offers AP programs, just like STA. PHS offers Dual Enrollment, just like STA. Does STA offer CLEP testing? Honest question, I know PHS does, and the student pays $0.00 for it. Students pay half of Dual Enrollment courses, STA students pay the full costs. AP courses have to have certified teachers, not every teacher at STA is certified. ETA: Students also don't pay for the AP test at the end of the course.

The only public schools in tangipahoa parish coming close to what STA offers currently is Hammond due to the magnet programs.

There are 20 or so kids actually taking advantage of the Magnet Program. Even with the magnet program they are a D rated school. PHS still has more students with better ACT scores than Hammond.

Kids can certainly go to STA and find a place to play sports, its 2A.

A good catholic education, maybe. But STA cant come close to the college courses that PHS offers. Great teachers aren't flocking to go there to get paid a little over half of what public school teachers make. You are terribly misinformed if you think your kid is getting a good education from STA.

Does Ponchatoula send 99% of its graduates to college as well?

Well, STA had around 250 students when I graduated and most of them came from very wealthy families. PHS had around 1500 and most of them came from lower middle class families. I think it's safe to assume STA is always going to have a higher percentage of it's students attend college.

Grew up in Ponchatoula, went to PHS and family still lives in Ponchatoula. Having said that, I hate Ponchatoula. If I had to move back, I would live in Mandeville.

Why is Ben more of a douche than your run of the mill high school loser coach? Backstory or link?

I graduated Ponchatoula and live in Hammond currently. I love the city and would feel comfortable sending my kid to Hammond High or St. Thomas. Ponchatoula is okay, but I think the hammond schools have risen above in the last 5 years.

Yes Mandeville is nice and has better schools, but I hate to commute and I'm sure the taxes are higher. I would avoid Walker and Denham.

I'm amazed they haven't made him head coach. He was an all around 5 star player in high school. His playing days have given him much needed knowledge and experience.

If he can have half the success coaching as he had playing, then Ponchatoula will never lose regular season again. Pistol Pete movie was filmed in Ponchatoula, wouldn't be surprised to see this sports hero on the big screen as well.

Rumor is they are thinking of appointing him head baseball coach due to his extensive background in the sport.

If basing it off of personal experience, wouldn't he be better off teaching special ed?
