Yes, they DO plan to change the name of the street. Norman Francis avenue is the one Mitch and his peeps want.
There's another shitstorm waiting to happen, then. Again, from business owners all along Jeff Davis.

Beauregard is the one I really don't want to see come down. Not only was he perhaps the finest military man to come out of the New Orleans area, he spear-headed the ill-fated unification movement. He recognized and voiced aloud that whites and blacks have the same goals and should work together to make this a better country.
My mother, who is about as liberal as I know personally, has an affinity to the legacy and monument to Beauregard.
On a slightly different note...
I drove by his statue this morning, and saw the remnants of vandalism. That monument (along with Lee Circle) are on the National Registry of Historic Places. Would there be some sort of stiffer fine/punishment for defacing one of these sites?
And on another slightly different note.....
I read today that sites on the National Registry of Historic Places receive tax incentives for maintaining those properties. Does that mean that merely the fact of not having those monuments there anymore would result in higher costs to the city?
Would that also mean that whoever owns the mystery warehouse where those two monuments are to be stored will also receive tax breaks?

Not usually, when a street name is changed the post office and the parcel services use both names for a long while.
Historically streets have been changed in the city after being known as one thing for a long time. Jeff Davis was Hagan avenue and Lee Circle was long Tivoli circle and MLK used to be Melpomene ave.

I've been saying that streets are next.

I guess Beauregard Town in Baton Rouge will soon be on the list.

I think the next push after that will be to either take away historical designations for plantations, have them removed, or force them to prominently feature apologetic slave displays.

Just find another less racist Beauregard to name it after. Worked for Chalmette.

All lies perpetrated by white men. Jesus aspired to be like MLK.

Anybody else find it ironic that the SJW white guy is protesting a "racist" monument and yelling at a Confederate flag wearing black guy there in support of leaving the monument in place?
Gotta love the irony of black men protecting a statue of the Confederate President...from a white mayor.
It makes me think of this line from the movie JFK. LINK

The mayor doesn't care. The police and mayor have gotten video proof in the past.
The vandalism last night was shown live on I think WDSU's(can't remember but I saw it live) FB page
