I actually think if you relocate this whole park towards the northshore. They have tons of property heading towards mandeville, hammond etc. Just pick a spot. And expand it as much as you want. I def think the northshore would be able to sustain it. And i just don't think ppl will go to NOLA east just to go to a theme park. But they would have no problem crossing that twin span or causeway to go to one located there.

This actually makes sense. Problem is that it would have zero chance of becoming a tourist destination, and would be for locals only. But how much of Jazzland traffic was from people outside the NO area? Probably very little.

That is kind of a stretch. EastOver isn't exactly a gem.

pparently, there's not enough infrastructure in the area to support a sportsplex.

I just can't see this being an economically feasible option.

Large chunk of N.O. East is a $^\£hole. Call it what is.....dang shame.

Next stupid thing they will do is announce refurbishment of The Plaza. Another $^\£hole.

I admire the revitalization efforts, but does anyone really think that something that didn't work pre-Katrina is going to work now!

When you go down to Michod a block away, and take a right, that gets to be a pretty bad hood.
I had a job back there a few months back. Very sketchy, and the worst roads I have seen yet in the city.

Six Flags says that 85% of their guests live within a 150 mile radius of their parks.

One of the things going against a reopening of Jazzland is it was one of, if not the worst performing parks Six Flags operated (they only leased it from the city). I would speculate that even had Katrina not hit New Orleans Six Flags would have either sold the park when they sold roughly half that parks after the 2006 season, or closed it outright like they did Six Flags Astroworld in 2005 or Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom in 2009 as part of their bankruptcy reorganization.

For any park to succeed in New Orleans it will need to be closer to downtown New Orleans and it MUST have a waterpark. That is really where the growth in the industry is in America these days.

Wasn't the main problem with Jazzland was that ghetto parents were dropping their kids off for the park to babysit thus scaring away the people with money?

i just can't see putting up a business that failed in the exact same spot the first time. Theme Parks are a dead business unless you are in a ridiculously densely populated area, or you are Disney.

It shut down after the storm because six flags went belly up ......people think it went under because it wasn't making enough money and it may have eventually ....

even six flags in Houston shut down and that place thrived for years....

I think if the right group developed the park it would be successful.....

There is ZERO way that the Northshore could sustain Six Flags. New Orleans people don't go over there unless they absolutely have to. It's a nice area, there is just nothing over there. And Jazzland would fail even more miserably

AstroWorld had a couple of things going against. Six Flags did not own the parking lot they used, and their lease expired about two months before it closed. Six Flags wanted to renew the current parking area they had been leasing, but the Texans ans the Stock and Rodeo show wanted to use the Six Flags lot for their parking and relocate parking for the park to a different part of the complex. At least that is what Six Flags claimed.

Six Flags was also over 2 billion dollars in debt at the time and their largest shareholder (Daniel Snyder, yes THAT Daniel Snyder) was leading a fight to oust the CEO and COO to try and turn the company around. They thought if they closed and sold the land they would be able to convince shareholders to keep them in charge. They expected to get $100-$150 million from the land, but it sold for only $77 million and it cost about $20 million to clear the site.

By the time Snyder and co were able to take over it was too late to stop the closing.

The only way I'd consider going is if Disney (won't happen) or Universal (would be awesome) got their hands on it. Universal is going crazy right now in Florida with new development and they seem to have taken Disney's aapproach to building attractions now. Plus New Orleans East really needs some gentrification for this to work.
