close enough for me

I polled my son and daughter (both of whom attended LSU) and my yankee friend (who is now an ardent LSU fan).

My daughter was neutral, but said she doubted it would ever happen.

My son was against it, and said the parade ground should be named after Claire Lee Chennault.

My yankee friend was for it, because he thought it would probably piss off the Georgia fans.

W.T. Sherman was a slave owner.

How about we just not ever name the Parade Ground, since it belongs to all of us?

On the other hand, how about we not name anything at LSU without a multi-million dollar price tag, which is what universities do?

If someone wants Sherman's name on the Parade Ground that bad, he can put his money where his mouth is. To the tune of about $15 million. No $2 million gift for this one. Jack that price up.

Does this mean we can now set fire to UGA tailgate parties or roll them with one of these:

Agreed.

No need to rename the Parade Ground (no 's' for you dumbfricks in this thread) at all.

Let's just be honest here...James Carville isn't the sharpest tool in the shed.

to my mind, this is the simplest, most elegant, and at the same time funniest solution...

replace the Corporal missile that is slowly becoming a safety hazard in front of the Military Science building with the Sherman Memorial Tank...it's not a building and it's appropriate on several levels...but to make this work, it has to be a M-4 Medium...NOT a Firefly version either!!!

How about naming it after a big name in LSU sports- like Jim Taylor, Charles McClendon, Y.A. Tittle, Charles Alexander, the Honey Badger (don't care), Shaq O'Neil, Pete Maravich, or you name him/her. Much better than making the parade ground into a slap in the face battle ground by naming it after Sherman.

That would trigger the anti-war/military snowflakes and we would have protests and "discussions" about the evil American military. Get your head right, son!

famous Army saying:

"F@@@ them if they can't take a joke"

hell, you never know, President Trump could get on the phone with Putin and ask him to check if any Lend-Lease M-4's are still hanging around in some off-the-wall Siberian Depot...

the guys at Anniston Army Depot who are in charge of such things don't know of any M-4's available in CONUS, but we are still finding stuff that's been stuck in a corner for the last 60 years

I see nothing wrong with that. He has connections to LSU and was on the winning side of things. A memorial in his name doesn't seem out of the question.

With that said, I disagree with removing Confederate memorials. Why try and forget the past? It made us who we are, there's nothing offensive about it as it's done and over with - and none of us had any say in the matter. It's important to remember all of history.

People will still call it the Parade Grounds either way.

"Say, bartholomew, shall we meet at the Sherman Parade Grounds half past seven?"

"Aye, Trevor."
