i know of plenty guys that refused to deploy or refused to go into combat, and not a single one that went to jail
A less than honorable discharge, comes with a lifetime of obstacles.

Your a Troll but I know this guy 2005, Iraq, Triangle of Death. His Brigade took 28 KIA, 40 WIA in 12 months and was exposed to burn pits and a power plant that burned raw crude built by Russia with no EPA. Not to mention the mental toll it puts on you when you are out trolling for fire every day.
If all that happened at you work place I am guessing OSHA would shut it down and you would have a hell of a law suit for compensation.
My friend says for you to frick off there are worse things for your tax dollars to be spent on than VA Benefits.

If they were in a war zone they deserve all the respect they get. If they were at some stateside base the whole time, not as much.

Lots of revolutionary war and war of 1812 veterans around these days.
And I will say it. Vietnam didn't fight for any freedoms.
And I've only lost them since 2001

no, they just get moved to another unit and get a bad fitrep. i mean it's a career killer to be sure, but no one is getting court martialed over it. at least no one i know of. to be clear, i think they SHOULD be court martialed, but it never happens. usually there is some kind of medical card played to cover it up, but everyone knows what's going on.

your friend is like 1% of 1% though. that's the difference. no one is saying guys like that dont deserve to be taken care of...but they are a tiny TINY fraction of vets.

Combat Vets deserves it.
I see many Vets with “service related injury/ disability” to later find out it was an old football/ basketball injury while in the service.

Now do a person paid 10 dollars an hour that doesn't get free room and board and healthcare that is also paying taxes to those people
Just a quick 1st hand story:
I was in line at the credit union, one Saturday with about 30 Marines, in Guantanamo Bay. Started chatting with a guy ahead of me. He was not very happy about his current situation. Him, and the other Marines just got in from some God-forsaken shithole, were they had been sleeping in tents for the past 6 months. Got pulled from there, and sent to Cuba for the Cuban/Haitian refugee busllshit, where, you guessed it, they would be sleeping in tents again for who knows, how long and eating a meal of MREs. Meanwhile, his paycheck was being taxed just like the 17 y/o flipping burgers at McDonalds. Guess what the military doesn't have, that most jobs do? Overtime pay! Most vets will tell you, a 40 hours work week, is non-existent. You also might want to talk to a few sailors and ask them what a hot rack is.

Pretty simple minded to think deterrence thru projection of military power hasn’t kept the wolves at bay. And hasn’t allowed this country to thrive economically. But its all about perspective.

yes. for every combat injured disabled vet, i can show you a hundred or more with a huge disability rating for sleep apnea or PTSD from the time the SgtMaj yelled at them.

Can you elaborate on “special treatment”.

Any vet will tell you, combat missions and people in combat theaters heavily depend on support, and guys "in the rear with the gear". Both are essential for combat effectiveness and mission accomplishment.

I don't think I ever did 40 in a week the entire time I was in. The norm was 60-70 per week, if not more.

You can have a healthy respect for veterans without feeling obligated to say “thank you for your service” every time you see one. Both my father and stepfather saw real action in Vietnam, and I can say with some confidence that the special treatment we see nowadays would make them both uncomfortable.
I'm of the opinion that when someone thanks me for my service, it's more about them than it is about me. If it makes them feel better, that's fine, but I don't consider it "special treatment."
If people want to help veterans, elect folks who actually give a frick about fixing the broke dick VA and Veteran's benefits in general. Give to organizations that can help those who need it. I've done well in my career after separating, but so many others haven't, and it's pitiful how little we do to help them.
But hey, at least the useless bureaucrats at the VA can buy new computers and comfy chairs.

"You volunteered" isn't a good reason to treat our servicemembers like shite.

Most veterans don't want or feel the need for it, but they've earned my respect, and whenever I can show respect for them, I do.

Thankfully, we still have people willing to sign up to serve, otherwise there would be a draft. But with the way things are going with the current administration, I can easily see the draft coming back, out of necessity.
Comparing what the average person in the military deals with, to a civilian job where you can walk away at any time, is a complete joke on every level. Try telling your a-hole boss to kiss your arse, then do that with a Staff Sargent or a Master Chief.

At what point is this just welfare? A job is a job. My job doesn’t give me free healthcare for life. Before you say cuz not dangerous etc, a lot of construction workers and electrician don’t get it either
You really are a piece of shite!
You know what makes a veteran, especially those who are in the military via the all-volunteer era, special?
It's the fact that they willingly put their lives on the line for idiots like you. Did you serve your country?
I think not...I volunteered and served with the 101st Airborne Division just as Vietnam was winding down & soldiers were being pulled out. I'm no hero...but I was honored to have served with many heroes.
For the stories I've heard and the lives forever changed due to war, I would knock the snot out of you for comparing a soldier's job to one of a construction worker or an electrician.
Veterans are the reason your stupid arse was able to skip the military, for if there wouldn't be enough volunteers the draft would certainly be reinstated.
So if you can't say anything good about a veteran, just shut your f--k--g mouth!
