I'm jelly. Moved back to Nola bc it was a good career move for my wife (lateral move for me) and with 3 kids we wanted to raise with our families. But good for you for making it work in an amazing city.

I posted that additional detail in the comments and had people thanking me for hours.

I'm assuming you were still driving when you did that? Does using Waze increase the chance of getting caught by the police for using your mobile phone while driving? Does the app encourage distracted driving in your opinion?

In that particular instance a friend was with me and I told him to type in "deer, right most lane"

Eta usually it's me doing the road reports though

How easy is it to report things on waze? Do you have to manually type it in? If so, screw that.

It's little pictures you click. It still should be easier, especially if you're the driver but you don't have to type.

I think Wickowick is the king of Waze in the state. I'm a Royal Wazer ranked in the top 1000 in the state. Been using it for about 6 years now.

I've always wondered about the top drivers. They have to kind of cheat the system

You just get so many point for miles and I think he drives around 40k a year for work or something like that. I drive around 400-500 miles a week so it adds up.

eta: i stay active on it with roadside hazards, cops, etc.

It has the ability to use voice commands to report things as well.

No. Truckers, cops and EMS drivers.

Ok so after 8 pages I'm sure I'm late to the party here, but someone explain what makes Waze so superior to google maps?

I don't use it THAT often, maybe once every 2 weeks or so. But I like the navigation of GM and it has always done me well with diverting around traffic. From what I understand, the big thing about waze is it lets you knwo about police, but doesn't that solely rely on other users inputting that information?

I guess my ultimate thing is, what reason would a GM user have to ditch it and switch to waze?

Slight bump: thanks to this thread I decided to put Waze to the test today on a 15-hour mad dash from Austin to Birmingham via Baton Rouge. The tip to turn off the roadside hazard alerts made it work for me: Waze alerted me about every cop along TX-71 and I-10, and correctly re-routed me to Rosedale Rd., the 190 bridge and I-110 back down to Southdowns. Even routed me around the Acadian flooding under the RR tracks.

Funny thing 1: I was listening to a certain corporately-owned talk radio station which kept saying in their traffic reports that 110 at the Gov's mansion was closed due to high water -- but Waze insisted I take it. I did, and sure-enough, despite W___'s pre-recorded, non-local and not-updated reports, 110 was back open and damn near empty.

Funny thing 2: Once I got back into Alabama, Waze got real quiet. Apparently not a lot of users up here.

My points came from mainly driving miles. I only mark cops, and debris on the road. I don't edit maps or anything else to get extra points...

Yea I thought it was 1 point per mile. I have about 100k miles in the past 3 to 4 years but I would turn off waze after getting the big updates.

I simply use it for speeding in Houston traffic. Love it.

It has voice typing. I drive with my cell either wired or connected through Bluetooth to my speakers. Hit the microphone button and give details of road issues. Now with wrecks, I snap a pic and tell drivers which lanes to use and which are blocked.
