I wish we had worked out the problems and built the B-70 Valkyrie.

Dad retired active duty in 1974. He joined the Marines in 1942 and flew fighters and the Marine version of the B-24 in WWII (the latter taking photos of Japanese held islands, then when they disbanded the squadron he flew the VIP version of the B-24 hauling admirals and generals around). He flew Nimitz back from the surrender and Holland "Mad" Smith back home after the war. There were some others, but those are the two documented in his stuff.
After WWII, he was at Kaneohe for a year and they "forgot" about him (he was reserve). He loved it because he flew all the planes that were back, so he got a lot of time in a wide variety of aircraft. Then, they augmented him.
He was the first Marine to graduate from the first helicopter school (his good friend would have been first but he ground looped on his final test).
Dad served in Korea and Vietnam also.

very awesome, thought he had a little Corsair time too, and how did you end up in the 'port?

The Mustang definitely looks like it is very fun to fly.
I think that I prefer WW1 aircraft, though. They fly much more slowly, so you can really look around while you fly. Seems like even more fun.

He flew the prop Corsair quite a bit. He had a "Marine Room" that had a photo - mostly stock type photos - of every plane model he flew. The only jets were Skyhawks and Phantom. Vietnam he was going to get an F4 squadron but they moved him to a helicopter squadron. He flew AD's a lot, including dropping the only USMC nuke test weapon from one (I now have the arming pin - it had the explosives but was not nuked up).
He retired in NE Texas. I moved from Texas to Louisiana when the labor and employment alwyer at a big firm in Shreveport died unexpectedly and they recruited me.

Fun fact about the P-40 used by the AVG in China - they had limited aircraft and flew many missions a day. When they returned to their base to rearm and refuel, the ground crew would repaint the prop spinner a different color. The Japanese never really knew how many planes or squadrons they had and overestimated the number of planes they actually had. The ground crew would strip the paint off the spinners at night.

The Convair B-58 Hustler was a sleek-looking aircraft.
Fun Fact: Footage of B-58 Hustlers was used to depict the fictional "Vindicator" bombers in the classic movie "Fail Safe."

Gotta give a little love to the A10... It's just plain bad arse...
A little Homage to the B25 Mitchell.
and I always thought that this was a cool plane... and one Bad arse SOB for it's time... The Stuka...
But if I had to really, really decide which was the sleekest and most attractive looking airplane... It would have to be the Marine Spitfire.

I was able to re-create this scene visually in my head in about 5 seconds. Would love to see it on film.
