I wouldnt be friends with someone like that. Considering how obviously selfish, spoiled and immature he is, we would more than likely have nothing in common.

Gay...the presents thing is weird...sounds like a severe case of momma's boy-itis...can only be cured by real life....

That sounds sort of strange. I've had friends and family come over to my house for my birthday in the past. I don't expect gifts or anything like that. I usually put something on the grill, have some drinks, and visit.
This. Nothing wrong with having friends/family over to visit.

I don't think I've had a party like that since I was 13. I think it's wierd. For my birthdays, I usually just have dinner with my family, and I might go out somewhere for drinks with friends. Expecting gifts as a grown arse adult seems quite strange. I thought the only occassion that was really appropriate are showers.

Its weird that a 33 year old still expects presents though

Is having two parties considered out of the ordinary? Let's say you wanted to have party on your actual birthday, some friends couldn't make it, and you have a subsequent celebration.

What kind of amenities are provided by him and his wife at these parties? If you're pretty much breaking even in terms of how much you spent on his gift vs. how much you get at the party, then I say your friend is awesome and likes to throw parties. But if he just has a couple 2-liters, an ice cream cake, and cardboard cone party hats with rubber band chin straps, frick him.

My friend is having a birthday bbq this weekend. I will bring two bottles of wine to replace the one I drink while I am there lol!

Having a party isn't weird but have a cake and expecting presents is
Wife bakes me my favorite pie every year but it's really just for the two of us. The cake and presents sounds a little too 5th grade in this guy's story.

I have birthday parties every year. It's a joyous celebration for everyone and a reminder that great things do still happen.

Yes.
I host my own party every year, which is weird, but it's for the Masters and it's not centered on me. Happens to coincide w/ my birthday, but not styled as such.

I have a birthday party every year as well, but it is a crawfish boil. Booze, crawfish, tunes, family, friends, and Key Lime Pie. People bring old clothes as "presents" and we donate them to Salvation Army, Faith house, etc.
