Popular culture is a moral and intellectual wasteland, particularly as it concerns celebrity worship.

This is something that concerns me deeply about modern society -- why are so many fricks given about celebrities and the details of their personal lives? I don't give a frick about Brangelina, I just want to see (some of) their movies. Why do people care so much about that stupid shite?

The extension of celebrity worship has become the lust for fame, because we've now created an entire generation of people who essentially grow up wanting to be a celebrity. Hell, look at half your Facebook friends' inane posts on your news feed -- nobody cares you just ate dinner and are about to take a shower.

It is one thing to be annoyed by things some people do or to even dislike some people. But to "hate" that many people? That's not healthy.

Chill out and be thankful for what you have. If some dumb-asses want to spend their money on cigs and celebrity mags it shouldn't be that big of a deal to you. I'm sure you have a roof over your head, food to eat, etc.

Deadspin wrote an awesome piece a few years ago about baby names getting worse with our generation.

I love everybody....so you and I balance each other out. Nature is beautiful that way.....it provides for everyone and every situation. My yoga teacher always says if you can balance on a leg while waving at your neighbor and breathing deeply you will catch rainbows. I love that guy.

For you, probably. I'm a social chameleon and like all people. From CEO's down to welders and commercial fisherman. And everything in between.

Same here. I don't get people who hate so easily. Boggles me wee brain.

It is easy to be turned off by a lot of what you see today in media, society and pop culture. Most news is bad and the people making it are worse.

As for the pop culture with the Kardashian's, Bieber's, Cyrus', etc., I don't like it, but don't think of it as something I hate. In a lot of ways, they are the pathetic ones ($ or not) given what they do to themselves and their families in order to make money. I just choose to turn the page or find something else of interest.

As for people in general and the dumb things they do that drives your "hate", these things have always occurred. People prioritizing cigarettes and booze over lawn care responsibilities have always existed in our ever expanding welfare state. For several decades now, parents have selected trendy names for their kids. Somehow, the Mary's and Bobby's gave way to the Preston's and Parker's that have now become the Hayden's and and Brayden's. It is just the way it works.

The best thing you can do is focus on the people in your life, i.e., family, friends, etc. In some respects, you gain wisdom as you age and are more patient in some ways (less in others). It is just a matter of priorities and I choose to not put any priority on the folks and situations that have nothing to do with me or that I have no control over. To "hate" these people or things is a waste of your time.

Glassman, that is the only way a compassionate human being should approach their day. I try to have compassion and see the human condition present in everyone I come into contact with every day. My biggest challenge is just dealing with the general arrogance and narcissism of so many today. Our fricked up culture does nothing but encourage the worst in people.

Yes. Social media and everyone thinking they are living some kind of legendary life just encourages narcissism and arrogance. It is one of the most depressing aspects of modern society to me. When you wed an obsession with technology with selfishness and narcissism you get an especially unlikeable human being.

Interpersonal discourse seems like it is dying because of social media. When I see a table of four at a restaurant and the patrons are all looking at their phones instead of conversing it makes me a little sad.

Hey now - I'm more intelligent than you and I love American Idol.

ETA- Like you, I hate stupid people as well. And since virtually everyone is stupid compared to me, that mean I dislike an overwhelming majority of the population. Coupled with my Social Anxiety Disorder, that sometimes makes me feel like a borderline sociopath.
