Seriously it would send a big red flag for me if someone asked me if they should wear a suit or not, and even bigger if they didn't show up in one. This is completely expected of you and I can't think of an interview I've had where they said I shouldn't wear a suit.

They will never look down on you for wearing a suit. But they might look down on you for not wearing one. Always go suit.

We're a casual law office, but if you showed up without a suit I'd notice and it would bother me. I'm not saying I wouldn't hire you, but it would raise questions.

To me it isn't so much "well he didn't dress up for me that's disrespectful to my firm" it's more about the type of person who doesn't err on the side of caution in that type of scenario. Again, not sure it'd make any difference, but it would give me something to think about other than your resume.

A suit and tie is never out of place for an interview...especially for a white collar job.

Always wear a suit to an interview.

Had a buddy go to an interview without even a tie, the company put that down as one of their reasons to not hire him.

Sure, why not. If I was hiring an employee I would hope they came to me with a question when they were not sure of something.

Nah. Specifically asking what to wear to an interview.

I went on a few interviews 3 years ago when I was looking. Suit to every one of them. Two of the places, the interviewer told me it wasn't necessary. They were all business casual.

At my last job, which I interviewed for about 7 years ago, I wore a suit to the first interview. Both of the people interviewing me said something about how they were casual, and I shouldn't have. And I mean more than business casual. It was a marketing company. The type of place where khakis and an untucked polo was acceptable in the summertime. I ended up wearing a dress shirt and dress slacks to the second interview, but no coat and tie. Got the job.

this thread again

asking what to wear is worse than not wearing a suit when a suit was expected

ETA: As i stated in last thread, suit is always safe and won't hurt you. That being said, if it's an intra-company interview or you know the interviewer and know that you will be the only one wearing a suit, don't do it.

Unless you're interviewing for a menial minimum wage job or manual labor, wear a suit to your interview.

It's also very regional, as well. NYC/DC/CHI suit.

Not many people wear suits in Cali.

True Story: Current job I have I interviewed for in a tshirt, gym shorts, and flip flops. Got the call and was asked when I could get there. Told her I passing in front of the place right as we spoke and I could run home, change, and head back. She told me no need to do that and just come in as is. With that said, I was heading home to suit up.

Unless you're interviewing for the french fry cook at McD's, put a damn suit on!

Its not about being formal. It's about showing them you care enough to make the effort. You will never be marked down to dressing up.
