Yes, because it is nearly inescapable and pointless.

Commuting from Lafayette is a nightmare, regularly takes an hour or more to get from grosse tete to Nicholson!

BR is a horribly designed city with multiple nonsensical bottlenecks.

Yes. And I've been in Houston for 9 years. Baton Rouge is horrendous. A city the size of Baton Rouge should not have the bottleneck that it does on its main interstate. It should not have that poor of a level of service at non-rush hour times. Blame geography/the river for prohibiting additional east-west mobility.

I don't disagree that there are some traffic problems but people also make decisions that do not help their situation and then complain about them. If you live outside the city and are basically stuck taking the interstate everyday, thats your choice to live there. It take me less than 15 minutes to get home from bluebonnet/i10 to kenilworth.
When I worked in midcity(nearly downtown) it was about 20 minutes both ways. Sometimes less if I got out at a good time.

If people would work closer to where they live or live closer to where they work, they wouldn't be sitting in traffic all day.

On the poll on the business report the other day for traffic over 1000 people responded and about 55% of people travel less that 25 minutes to work everyday.

Have these guys never heard of the concept of slower traffic staying to the right?

I think they only do it in Texas. It is amazing how many slow driving left lane assholes have Texas plates.

This is why I was against A&M joining the SEC. We don't need more of those a-holes clogging up the left lane

Go to the Crescent City Connection and close the bridge down to a single lane on the Eastbank, and report back. This is how the bridge is in downtown BR every day.

The geniuses running our city have decided that the best way to combat congestion on our other major thoroughfare (Mopac), is to narrow the lanes and add an HOV toll lane, which probably won't get used by enough drivers to make much of a difference.

360 or 130 it! Haha Especially 130! 80 mph speed limits are the tits.

Almost? It's everyday. There is a wreck nearly every 6 hours. And that wreck causes a minimum of 1 hour of delay.

I am unfortunately working across the river until next year, and i live on the other side of baton rouge. It is awful.

Census data from 2013 shows the average travel time to work for the Baton Rouge metro area commute is higher than the national average, but other regions in the state fall close to or even a bit lower than the national figure. Of the 195 major metropolitan areas analyzed, four were in Louisiana, covering the Baton Rouge, Lafayette, New Orleans and Shreveport-Bossier City regions.

The more than 369,000 commuters in the Baton Rouge area spent about 26.9 minutes on their way to work, according to the most recent census data, while the typical travel time nationally was 25.8 minutes. In the New Orleans and Lafayette regions, trips to work were largely in line with the national median, at 26 and 25.4 minutes, respectively. Commuters in the Shreveport-Bossier City area had the shortest trip to work in the state’s metro areas, with a mean travel time of 21.3 minutes.

So, the average commute time is as follows:

Baton Rouge - 26.9 minutes
New Orleans - 26 minutes
National Average - 25.8 minutes
Lafayette - 25.4 minutes
Shreveport - 21.3 minutes

But according to the anecdotal evidence of the OT, Baton Rouge traffic is sooooooo much worse than any other traffic that ever existed.

My solution to the traffic problems would be a south loop that comes off of nicholson/30 over the river and connects back to i10 around lobdell exit.

Extend kenilworth to burbank and eventually to nicholson. extend kenilworth to hennesy/donovan.

I am not super familiar with all parts of the city but I believe that would alleviate some of the traffic off of the interstate and provide a decent straight shot from the essen area toward the river.

If you live in Central the commute isn't that bad. If you're dependent on the interstate to get you to and from work then it's terrible.

College drive and Essen are also terrible.
