I have been detoured off I10 in NOLA more than BR. NOLA shuts down I10 about once a month because of a wreck.

Your by-passes are way too big.

You aren't going to start a by-pass from the spillway to Livingston. Way to large, way to expensive and bisects too much undeveloped land that helps few people.

Start at 415 use La. 1 as the right of way (upgrade it of course) by-pass Plaquemine and cross the river to St. Gabriel. Much shorter and provides a partially built westbank expressway that could be continued to Donaldsonville on south.

I'll add that studies have shown that Baton Rouge has the second worst traffic of cities in its size range (the only city worse is Honolulu).

But BR leads in the amount of traffic studies conducted...so we got that going for us.

eeds a route cutting from Port Allen off of 10, crossing the river into Geismar, going through Gonzales and up to Lilvingston to connect to 12.

This is the best alternative

You people who live in SBR and Prairieville who think the interstate system should serve them are exactly what the problem is.

The southern bypass connecting Livingston Parish to Ascension and then going over the river in the South is the most expensive option we have.

Even worse than being expensive it is less effective than a northern bypass. More big trucks are coming across i-12 and many of the trucks that go from NOLA to out west could take the i-49 once it connects NOLA to Lafayette. That'll be your southern bypass.

1. Use the Huey P. Long bridge for traffic in one direction, use Hooper Rd, and connect that bad boy to i-12 and a lot of the traffic problems in BR improve dramatically. This option is way cheaper.
2. Later down the road you can think about the super tricky task of connecting i-10 to i-12 in Livingston Parish, maybe through Port Vincent or French Settlement.
3. Phase 3 would be the most costly part which is completing the Southern part of the loop. Lots of wetlands though.

Baton Rouge traffic makes me feel like I catch AIDS, while smoking bad PCP for about an hour each day.

Only once a month? Get out of here, amateur. Baton Rouge doesn't officially shut down the Interstate because there is no where to divert people so they just let them sit there for hours.

I sat on Bluebonnet for 30 minutes today trying to travel from Highland to the Brew Bachers right up the street. On a freaking Wednesday. What a joke.

If it says anything, I've played cards with a trucker on I-10 in BR. I've never sat long enough to exit a vehicle in NOLA (lived their 2 years).

I sat, trapped, on St Claude for 25 minutes today because they can't build an overpass at the tracks and disrupt the culture.

More through traffic uses 12 than 10 to NO.

Exactly. The majority of traffic daily on I-12 is thru-traffic (both 18-wheeler and passenger vehicles); all of which would flow through smoothly without the mass exodus from Livingston Parish every morning, and confluence of the same clowns every afternoon. The slowdowns on I-12 occur each day between Juban and Millerville-ish in the morning, and Sherwood to Juban in the afternoons. Although not as frequent with an additional travel lane, it still slows to a very slow crawl multiple times per week.

When the loop public forums were held, no one was more vocal about their traffic woes than the LP folks.

The top three comments were:

1) "I'm never gunna use that! It's too far outta my way!"...

B) "That monstrosity is gunna brang drugs into our parish!"...

3) "It's gunna go right through ma new neighborhood!"...

The northern portion of the loop/bypass makes the most sense traffic-volume wise, but frick LP.

Either way, a new bridge needs to be built.

compared to the speed of a Conestoga wagon, no BR traffic is not that slow.

What I prefer about Atlanta is you have options...go thru town, go around town any number of ways, etc. Lived there 12 yrs and got good at navigating any time of day. You don't have many options in BR and when you do they're normally both moving at the same pace.

Exactly. There are so many arteries at ease traffic it's the connector with all the road work that is the worst at the moment and it's still only taking 30 min to drive they downtown on the connector
