Yup....lost 25 lbs on it and maintain weight with it without changing what I eat but when I eat it. No food between 8pm and 12 pm.

yep. I use it when cutting and bulking. Go over onto the F&D board in the puttheforkdown thread and my google drive folder is linked in the OP that has all the info you could want to know about IF.

I now seen a couple doctors that recommend and/or that recommend fasting for 24 hours once a week.

I've begun utilizing IF to help me control my eating. I feel so much more in control, and I love it. I've been doing 16hr fasts (basically skipping breakfast) daily, and have completed one 24-hour fast. Looking to do another 24-hour tomorrow. Hope it helps combat some of the vacation weight I put on.

Do you guys workout on an empty stomach with this or just adjust the times? Most people I see do a 8-12 or some variation, but I workout in the AM.

I read this in a book by some young Jewish(I think) Doctor years ago. He did 1 24 hour fast every week for both spiritual and health benefits. I can't remember if he promoted it for any sort of metabolic reasons or just the lack of 2,000-2,500 calories you would be consuming each week.

I think there should be some research on what is called advantageous eating.

By that I mean...eat like an animal would.

One heavy meal when there's lots of food, and many small meals/snacks in between the heavy meals.

I would say if you did a heavy meal where you packed as much food in as possible, then that would work well on a 3 day cycle.

Then in between that you eat snacks that are low calories or meant to fill you up. Even a liquid diet in between would work. Not necessarily low calorie. Like protein drinks or fruit smoothies. Something to fill the void in your stomach that is giving you hunger pains.

Lots of things going on at multiple levels.

Overview of benefits with referenced info below:

quote:

Here are some of the changes that occur in your body during fasting:

Insulin levels: Blood levels of insulin drop significantly, which facilitates fat burning (1).
Human growth hormone: The blood levels of growth hormone may increase as much as 5-fold (2, 3). Higher levels of this hormone facilitate fat burning and muscle gain, and have numerous other benefits (4, 5).
Cellular repair: The body induces important cellular repair processes, such as removing waste material from cells (6).
Gene expression: There are beneficial changes in several genes and molecules related to longevity and protection against disease (7, 8).

Many of the benefits of intermittent fasting are related to these changes in hormones, gene expression and function of cells.

I'm about 40 and over the past year or two have tried the 24 hr fast about once/month and the 16 hr fast once/week. Not trying to lose any weight but the other health benefits seem to be significant.

Increased testosterone, reduced risk of Alzheimer's/Dementia, natural repair of internal organs, etc.

I also enjoy eating unhealthy foods at times (especially weekends) and usually find it fairly easy to fast between Sun dinner and Monday dinner.

I did it for a while. Definitely helped with my fitness routine but my wife said it made me in to a bigger a-hole than usual.

I did it over the weekend because I had food poisoning. I came out of it with a pounding headache that medicine couldn't get rid of, almost no energy, and I didn't lose any weight after only eating a couple pieces of bread for 2 days.

Seems legit

I have a protien shake in the morning, a meal at lunch, and an afternoon shake after workout/run. This is every day. Sometimes I will eat dinner, but it's usually just chicken/fish with a veg.

I started about 6 weeks ago and was 206. This morning I weighed in at 187. I'm 5'11".

It is my preferred method when cutting. Can also be fun when gaining g weight, but that's a lot of food in a short window.

I lost about 30 lbs on it when I first got back into working out.

This is going to be the main reason. There are other supported advantages, but like every other diet, the main reason is calories
